Requests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. Please check the sidebar to the right to see whether your request belongs better elsewhere. Specifically, bot requests, requests for CheckUser information and global rights requests belong on their respective pages.

If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).

Interface translations are done at translatewiki. Please do not request administrator access for that purpose; your request will be declined.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel (web client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help. Otherwise, you can use @steward to gain attention if the channel is quiet.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

MetaWiki requests

Using this page

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:
    ==== User name@xxproject ====
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    =
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]").
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of identity

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to confirm their identity. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also submit the relevant identification to the Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the office.

Requests

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== user name@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    =
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for removal of access belong in another section. Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-admin.

If you are requesting administrator status to translate the wiki interface, this should be done at the BetaWiki project instead (see mw:localisation). You can ask questions in the IRC channel or on the mailing list.

If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Steward requests/Speedy deletions.

Stewards
Currently-active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary; copy granted requests to the appropriate section there, stating the date of removal in the section header and at the bottom of the request. Please invite new sysops to the admin IRC channel.
Archiving
Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage. Users who archive requests on that page, please check if the request was correctly added to the temporary subpage before removing it from this page.

For permanent sysopship please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary sysopship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Trần Nguyễn Minh Huy@vi.wikibooks

Hello Trần Nguyễn Minh Huy. Please post a notice on the local requests page (village pump or b:vi:Thảo luận Wikibooks:Người quản lý) and leave it open for some days (~1 week) to gauge community consensus. Thank you. — Dferg (talk) 17:03, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
OK OK, I did there, thank you. But this project is too small, very few people interested --minhhuy*= 04:46, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done, expires: 31/06/2010 please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:, please come back a few days before the status expires to prolong it or hold a local voting if the community grows, thanks Note to stewards: archived note on SR/AT. — Dferg (talk) 22:12, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks, but I wonder why my admin rights lasted only three months? I have been public votes of confidence and no set time limit --minhhuy*= 05:18, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Per handbook. If another steward feels appropiate to give permanently adminship or prolong his temporary adminship, feel free to do it. Thank you, — Dferg (talk) 12:55, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Lucyin@wawiktionary

(Moved from Meta request for admin) Avi 18:01, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

I see you are an admin and crat there, presumably temporary. Has there been a discussion onwiki regarding permanency? -- Avi 18:06, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Rights were granted locally on 2005.
Please state exactly what are you requesting, otherwise we can not help you. Thanks. — Dferg (talk) 18:02, 22 March 2010
Yes, I only get temporary adminship untill now. I want permanency. So far, there have not been not many users, but we can start a discussion about permanency, if needed. But it will be as formel as for last temporary adminship demand. --Lucyin 18:45, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
If the project is too small to have a formalized process, that is fine, but you have to have an on-wiki discussion for a respectable length of time (I'd personally say at least 5-7 days) and then if there is a consensus to make it permanent, link that discussion above (in the discussion = section of the tag) and we can get to work. -- Avi 18:47, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
So, this is not a request for wa wikipedia but for wa wiktionary as far as I can see. The heading and the template pointed to wikipedia. Is this right? That's why I got confused :) — Dferg (talk) 18:50, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Lucyin, Here is my recommendation: Please create a RfA page, start an election and announce it in site notice as well. Run the poll at least for a week. Lets see how that goes. --Jyothis 18:49, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for confusion Wikipedia/Wiktionary ! Indeed, I am already permanent administrator on Walloon Wikipedia (granted to me by Mr Sarachaga, the creator of Walloon interface there). I need it for Walloon Wiktionary, which I started nearly alone, after advice of other Wikipedians. Unfortunatelly, I can not create poll pages. Can you do that for me ? Then, we will run the poll with other users. --Lucyin 19:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
It's easy. Just start a new topic on you community discussion page (wikt:wa:Wiccionaire:Nosse cåbaret) saying that you want to become an administrator and leave it open for a week to gauge community consensus. Thanks, — Dferg (talk) 14:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

┌──────────────────────────┘
Please provide a link and content that you want to create. Also, Please unify your account too. If it is ok to have a temp adminship, that can be considered too. --Jyothis 12:37, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Pictogram-voting-question.svg Progress report? Hello, how is this going here? Please inform us. Very best, — Dferg (talk) 22:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

စေတနာ@mywiktionary

Hi,

I request for an administrator - permanency for my.wiktionary as there is no one doing it. I speak, read and write that language very well and it is my mother tongue.

Thank you. --စေတနာ 20:04, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Without a community vote I think that the only thing possible would be temporary admin status. I see that there is an open vote to close this wiki, but a majority favor keeping. Due to your activity I'm inclined to close that vote as a keep but will wait to see what other stewards say. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 17:47, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
There should be a local vote, or we can only consider temporary approval.--Jusjih 00:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

How do one can go about getting an admin rights through a local vote ? Meantime, temporary is good enough to prevent vandalism as present situation is totally vulnerable for that. --စေတနာ 02:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

if the Current requests page wikt:my:လက်ရှိလုပ်ငန်းများ is active, you should make an announcement that you are seeking temporary adminship there. That should also be the place to start discussing permanent adminship, unless there is a better centralized discussion area. -- Avi 18:27, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Can you pass this to present admin how did he/she got a ZERO vote to admin this my.wik with ZERO knowledge of the contents in there ? --စေတနာ 21:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position. In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.

General note

There is an ongoing discussion regarding the minimum number of votes and overall participation to promote users to bureaucrat at Talk:Bureaucrat#Minimum_number_of_votes. Users are encouraged to assist in the development of a policy that allows stewards to not decide on whether a promotion is valid or not. Thank you.

Homonihilis@trwikisource

Thanks--Reality006 15:06, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Was there another candidate? There has been recent talk about requiring that any wiki needs a minimum of two bcrats. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 23:49, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no other candidates for the bureaucrats. Moreover, the user already bureaucrats Wikipedia. In addition, the project now that it did not remain active sysop.--94.54.32.245 09:52, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Hello,
    Since this wiki is so small, there is no active sysop, and no bcrat at all. The voting was initially aimed for sysop authorization, but some of the users agreed to change the voting to sysop+bcrat. If bcrat permission is not possible because there is no other bcrat candidates, I would like to have the sysop rights for the moment, so that I can start cleaning up immediately. Currently there are some serious copyvio's to deal with. İyivikiler... [ho? ni!] 18:50, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Meta:Requests for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy before giving the status. There is an email template to request identification from the new CU. Do not grant CU access unless the user is identified to the Foundation. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner-at-lists.wikimedia.org so the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list, and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l-at-lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

If you're requesting the removal of your own status, make sure you're logged in to a global account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request; the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must take place on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. In either case, copy and paste the following text into the correct section (see instructions above).

SB_Johnny@en.wikiversity

Jimbo's recent interventions seem to be pushing the community in a reactionary direction, and he's made it rather clear that it's "his way or the highway". I'm no longer morally comfortable volunteering as a staff member on this project, and would like to resign my tools. Please remove me from both the "Custodian" and "Bureaucrat" usergroups. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 18:54, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Not a hasty request but one well thought through. Real life and chapter life is simply far too busy atm so am cutting back on any distractions so I can focus on some major projects with my chapter. :) Will still kick around so may be back in the distantish future but for time being want to be honest about time commitments.
