Requests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. Please check the sidebar to the right to see whether your request belongs better elsewhere. Specifically, bot requests, requests for CheckUser information and global rights requests belong on their respective pages.

If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).

Interface translations are done at translatewiki. Please do not request administrator access for that purpose; your request will be declined.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel (web client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help. Otherwise, you can use @steward to gain attention if the channel is quiet.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Cross-wiki requests
Meta-Wiki requests

Using this page

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:
    ==== User name@xxproject ====
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    =
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]").
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of identity

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to confirm their identity. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also submit the relevant identification to the Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the office.

Requests

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

====user name@xxproject====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    =
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for removal of access belong in another section. Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-admin.

If you are requesting administrator status to translate the wiki interface, this should be done at the BetaWiki project instead (see mw:localisation). You can ask questions in the IRC channel or on the mailing list.

If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Steward requests/Speedy deletions.

Stewards
Currently-active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary; copy granted requests to the appropriate section there, stating the date of removal in the section header and at the bottom of the request. Please invite new sysops to the admin IRC channel.
Archiving
Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage. Users who archive requests on that page, please check if the request was correctly added to the temporary subpage before removing it from this page.

For permanent sysopship please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary sysopship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Captain Jones@kywikipedia

In the project has one administrator. He didn't use his tools since May 30. Deletions here, blocks here and protects here. I request temporary sysop access, thanks Captain Jones 11:30, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Have you asked on the local projects village pump and waited ~ a week? Laaknor 11:46, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
You do not seem to be active on this project, please mark pages for quick deletion using {{delete}} template. Temp sysop access is generally granted only if deemed necessary, please state why you need it. Thank you. --M/ 11:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I request for clear the unused pages and files. (copyrighted and available on Commons)--Captain Jones 12:36, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Please open a local request too, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:15, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Local request here. Thank you.--Captain Jones 13:38, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Can you get feedback from some of the other editors currently using the wiki? There aren't that many of them. But it is unusual to grant temp sysop rights to an editor who hasn't started to edit the project. (For instance, if you tagged the files you want to delete, and left a message for Aidabishkek, and he didn't respond - that would be inactivity on his part.) -- sj | translate | + 21:21, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I am not active in kywiki. Because I mostly do edit Turkish Wikipedia. Lastly I left a message to Aidabishkek, and if he don't respond, when is it going to be accepted my request? Thank you.--Captain Jones 08:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

chrisportelli@mtwiktionary

I demand a temporary adminship so as to carry out certain tasks such as page deletions, editing MediaWiki messages to the correct Maltese translation, updating/creating the Common.css page, and ordering well the sidebar. Chrisportelli 15:04, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello, translations are only to be made and corrected in translatewiki: if You can agree to that and make a local announcement (and if locals don't disagree) temporary status can be granted, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 22:58, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I can agree to this. My only hope is to re-construct the Maltese Wiktionary, because it needs to be updated just like our wikipedia is. Thanks. —Chrisportelli 13:52, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
When is it going to be accepted? —Chrisportelli 11:49, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Please link to the local request and let the local community at least one week to decide, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:49, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Atm, the wiki is a bit inactive and there is no local request pages open on mt.wiktionary. My only work to do is to update the wiktionary. —Chrisportelli 21:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Please do a local request anyway, this way no one can say afterwards they hadn't known or hadn't had the chance to give their opinion (we had that in the past). There might be some people reading there, one never knows, so please grant possible local users to give their opinion and not being overruled. Thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:10, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Agree with 'birdy... this is really a good practice. Thanks for offering to help, Chrisportelli. ++Lar: t/c 21:15, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I left a message on the village pump. I don't know if there will be any comments due to the fact that in the last weeks there was particularly no major activity. We'll wait and see. —Chrisportelli 17:24, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello Spacebirdy and Chris, I am Sarvaturi from Sicilian wiktionary and wikipedia, I hope both of you are fine. I must say that there is not really a "local community" on mt.wiktionary: I am the main contributor (I create articles, and I wikificate other ones). Chris does a very good work on mt.wikipedia and I remember that he helped me for some Italian to Maltese translations (which were useful for creating new templates and categories on mt.wiktionary). I think Chris will be a good administrator on mt.wiktionary. Best regards. --Sarvaturi 17:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, Sarvaturi, and it's great that mt.wikt has a new active contributor! Our policy is to wait roughly a week after the local request is made; it's okay if there are no other comments, and leaving yours on mt.wikt was all that was necessary. -- sj | translate | +

Seha@bs.wikiquote

As per local request, please change my expiring on 20.08.09. There is no active ´crat on project and i´m the only active sysop (temporary). Now there are more votes as for last sysop election. THX Seha 20:50, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

This seems reasonable. I left a note with Leinad; best if he replies since he set the temp adminship. -- sj | translate | + 04:08, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Thx Sj. --Seha 08:16, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm agree with sj, I changed Your access to permanent. LeinaD (t) 19:07, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Aurora@ms.wikibooks

I would like to extend temporary my administrator access for another 6 months. See previous request. ...Aurora... 11:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I see your announcement to the ms.wikibooks community that you'd like an extension, but it doesn't look like anybody has replied. Let's give it a few days, in case anyone wants to make their opinion known one way or the other. — Dan | talk 21:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position. In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Meta:Requests for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy before giving the status. There is an email template to request identification from the new CU. Do not grant CU access unless the user is identified to the Foundation. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner-at-lists.wikimedia.org so the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list, and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l-at-lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

If you're requesting the removal of your own status, make sure you're logged in to a global account.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must take place on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. In either case, copy and paste the following text into the correct section (see instructions above).

==== username@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    =
 |user name =

Miscellaneous requests

Requests that don't fit in other sections belong here. Import rights can be granted by stewards only, not bureaucrats, so the automatic list of local bureaucrats is irrelevant for this. Please gather community consensus before placing a link to the discussion here.
