Grants:PEG/FF portal/Proposals/Pilot/Training Librarians to become campus ambassadors

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I had my students last year expand psychological topics in Wikipedia instead of completing a traditional research paper. The students enjoyed the assignment, but many were frustrated by having to learn the "code" for editing Wikipedia. They requested to have someone come to class a couple of times for 15 minutes or so to demonstrate for them how to edit a page. I checked with the Wikipedia people and found out that we don't have any Wikipedia Ambassadors on campus who can show students what they need to do. So, there is a definite need there.

As a flow-funder I would like to spend the $2000 allocated to me as compensation for one or two librarians who would spend time over the early summer familiarizing themselves with the Wikipedia editing language. There are many great tutorials already on the web and I believe there will be online training for Ambassadors as well, so no travel costs will be involved for training. The goal is to them have the trained librarians give demos in classes and offer workshops for interested faculty & students.
