Good morning.

My name is Santtu Pajukanta and I am the auditor for Wikimedia Finland. The other representative of Finland is Niklas Laxström, the incumbent chair of the board. Would you please stand up and wave to the audience.

The chapter was originally founded a year and a half ago. However, due to the inactivity of the first chair of the board and the sluggishness of the Finnish bureaucracy, the registration of the chapter took until late 2010 to complete.

At the moment the Finnish Chapter has roughly thirty members, five out of whom currently serve on the Board. The Chapter currently has no other form of income than membership fees, 10 € per member and 100 € per supporter, so the budget for 2011 is quite limited. This severely limits the scope of activity the Chapter can arrange this year.

The Finnish Wikipedia community at large is not yet very well aware of the existence and activities of the Chapter. Also there is no defined process for advertising the activities of the Chapter in Wikipedia. Then again, as the membership is quite few at the moment, simply informing the members of Chapter activities simply isn't enough.

As such, the Finnish Chapter currently lacks the critical mass to actually get something done and encourage new people to become active members. However, we strive to change this in the months to come.

First foremost, we intend to work with the Wikipedia community and agree on how to announce the Chapter and its activities to the Wikipedians in Finland. Some bugs left in the bylaws require a debugging pass, which we intend to complete this year. We strive to secure the funding of Wikimedia Finland though public grants and the Wikimedia fundraiser. Finally, we are going to actively take part in events like this and, of course, get the projects running.

Speaking of which: Wikimedia Finland intends to take part in the Wiki Loves Monuments project. The attitude of the National Board of Antiquities in Finland towards WLM could be better, though. Next, we are going to translate and localize the Welcome to Wikipedia leaflet to Finnish. We plan to organize photoshoot trips to interesting places in Finland while perhaps collaborating with the OpenStreetMap people. Finally, we have this project called Treasures of the Archives to digitize interesting material in private archives.
