  • {Sitename}: Your home for knowledge. Help keep it ad-free.
Keeping Wikimedia sites ad-free is important to donors. Proposed by: Daniel Mayer (mav)
I like this, and I agree, based on the data. Philippe (WMF) 18:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I hate this.  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is your data-driven response for why? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • [Project] is free. Our bandwidth isn't. Donate now.
Simple, direct message. No gimmicks. Proposed by: Rd232
Is bandwidth a common knowledge term outside the tech communities? Philippe (WMF) 18:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
True, I shouldn't assume everyone has basic tech-literacy - Deniz 23:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No one will get it.  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • المعرفة الحرة. ادعمها لتبقى Translation: Free knowledge. Support it to stay free
Donors view Wikipedia as a resource/tool first, and a cause second. Free knowledge is the resource they want to support. Proposed by: Moushira
Agree. Philippe (WMF) 18:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
People really don't care about the multi-language thing.  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What multi-language thing? Moushira is advocating this for use on the Arabic speaking projects, I believe. Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, 'free' is 'free as in freedom' (i.e. Knowledge is Libre. Supoort it to stay.)--OsamaK 03:35, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • You own it, you break it:
Turning around the well know "You break it, you own it", and says that this project belongs to you, you own it, and if you don't support it, you will break it: Ulf Larsen
That one feels a little hard to understand for me. I'm not opposed to the concept, but I don't like this wording. Philippe (WMF) 18:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Philippe, it doesn't make sense but the idea is good. How about something like "this is your Wikipedia, you create it, you support it" -Deniz 23:27, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Idea good, but too confusing.  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Again, what data-driven reason? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do you want Wikipedia to be around tomorrow? Donate today.
Let's users know their support makes their favorite resource available. Proposed by Hogne
What if you don't?  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mono, what's your data-driven reasoning? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • 30 million entries. 270 languages. Millions of questions answered. All made possible with gifts of $35 from people like you. [animated]
Shows the scope of the project, without getting into mission-statement language. Adapted from CoreyOMP
I don't like the $35 gifts and we aren't WikiAnswers, btw  ono  03:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is the data driven reasoning? We're getting $35 average gifts. Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Sharing and Acknowledging Benefactors by name
Justification: Small messages have tested extremely well, also compared to "Stay curious"- "keep Sharing" makes a lot more sense whether someone chooses to share their funds, efforts or knowledge. The second one takes a different approach by acknowledging those that donated, it can really showcase the diversity of the donors, also potential benefactors might not hesitate giving smaller donations if they knew someone donated similar small amounts. Theo10011

  • Commons: Please Donate spelled out by individual letter pictures from the commons, designed by Lexicografia.
I believe its really different from all other Fundraising messages, its colorful, fresh and really stands out.Theo10011
Upon what data-points is this based? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds cool, but please do a mock up.

  • The faster you donate, the faster this banner comes down
A joke referring to anti-banner sentiment. Ottava Rima (talk) 20:17, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since 33% of our donations come from contributors, I don't think puns or jokes will make up for that half million. Keegan (WMF), Fundraising 2010 07:24, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is the data-driven reasoning for this banner? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The IRC driven protests saying that people really hate the banners because they disrupt our ability to use the WMF projects. It is the most honest of all of the possible messages - you give us money, we stop annoying you. Furthermore, I was the one that came up with the idea for the second (and super majority passing) part of the RfC that required consensus for non-fundraising banners. Ottava Rima (talk) 00:16, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wiktionary provides information about {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} words from over 400 languages. Help keep it free.
Clear ask, your donation goes to keeping a valued resource available. Proposed by Lexicografía
I'd prefer "donate now" since you can't ask someone to keep it free and then solicit money. Other than that, all good. Keegan (WMF), Fundraising 2010 07:24, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Every day Wikipedia helps millions to become better persons. You have the opportunity to be part of this, donate today.
Justification: People donates to have a better world, regards, User:Cvmontuy

  • Wikinews informs you. Help us back.
Not sure how to word it better. I had a better idea in my mind: "Wikinews goes to the news place just to inform you. Help us back." but it is too long imo. Diego Grez return fire 02:30, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is the data driven reasoning for this suggestion? Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The only non-profit website in the top 10. Help keep us different.
Wikipedia's independence from advertising is important to donors. Proposed by: Sonia
Agreed. Philippe (WMF) 21:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is a really great concept - the wording could still be clearer. 178.102.96.209 18:43, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I changed non-commercial to non-profit, which is apparently more accurate. sonia 08:58, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
