WMF Grants Program Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) funds mission-aligned innovation-focused projects through the WMF Grants Program, and provides grantees with non-financial assistance. Fiscal Year 2012–13 is the Wikimedia Foundation's fourth year of grantmaking: since 2009, the Wikimedia Foundation Grants Program has granted more than US$ 2,000,000. In FY 2011–12, 54 grants totaling over US$ 1,100,000 were distributed to 39 unique organizations or individuals.
The WMF Grants Program provides project-based grants to organizations, groups, and individuals. All grantees are accountable for project expenses by line item, and are required to report on all projects publicly. The review process for the WMF Grants Program is also public, and is led by a volunteer Grant Advisory Committee (GAC).
