Project scope[edit]

Production of an instructive video presenting Wikipedia, its goals, and the first steps for a new user to take.

This idea has been greatly influenced by the Italian WikiGuide to Wikipedia[1],other Video tutorials and Instructional videos already created, none of which targets the Spanish speaking audience.

Project goal[edit]

To bring more Spanish speaking users to Wikipedia, and convert casual readers into contributors.

Non-financial requirements[edit]

We will need to work together with Frank Schulenburg and the outreach taem to produce a good quality script, probably based on existing ones (i.e. Guided tour 1 and Guided tour 2.

We expect to cover some otherwise paid positions (speaker, direction, distribution, etc.) with volunteers such as radio-speaker and cinema students if we find appropriate candidates.

Fit to strategy[edit]

Expands the universe of users and contributors of Wikipedia, and hopefully other Wikimedia projects.

Other benefits[edit]

The video can be used in all Spanish speaking countries. Though some might wish to recreate the audio channel with a localized version of the Spanish language, the pages edited and the captions will be in standard-international Spanish.

Measures of success[edit]

  • New contributors to the Spanish Wikipedia (unmeasurable)
  • Views at the YouTube channel crated for that purpose, number of accesses to the file at commons.
  • Transmissions on TV by cultural and education programs.
  • Number of shares at digs, tweeter and other social sharing sites.
