Activities and lessons learned[edit]

This section describes what the grantee did, and what the grantee learned from implementing the project. This section should be useful to others implementing similar projects and is an opportunity for the grantee to reflect on the project's performance.

Activities[edit]

Provide a detailed list of activities performed to complete this project, descriptions of these activities, and the amount of time spent on each activity. This section should also include a list of participants, or a link to pictures, blog posts, or videos from the project or event.

Wiki Loves Monuments SK 2012[edit]

WMSK get partner for WLM SK 2012 - Slovak Institute of Monuments (PUSR). Project costs are travel to PUSR to agree the partnership and to get a prizes and post cost for sending of prizes to winners.

Administration and office[edit]

Address of residence of Wikimedia Slovakia was home address of one of our co-founders but she abdicated and didn't want to provide an address any more. So we needed to change the address. During first generally assembly number of members take note about badly defined parts of our bylaw. In result we was obligated to change bylaw. That was on 9th September 2012. Another costs are about registering new version and country ID for organisations.

During existence of WMSK we needed miscellaneous basic office supplies.

We have prepared business cards for members of our presidium.

Travel[edit]

  • Organisational meeting 9.8.2012 - preparation of new projects (i.e. Grants:Wikimedia Slovakia/Wikipedia workshop within KAEST), general plans
  • Generally assemblies - 3 GAs (president)
  • Wikipedia contest Day of financial literacy - personal meeting with partner
  • Wikimedia Conference 2013 - supplement for part of travel which wasn't reimbursed during the conference (bus from conference etc)
  • seminar about author law - as result was the next speak
  • speak for teachers 9.5.2013 - cca 50 teachers of basic and hight schools

Lessons learned[edit]

What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects, or that may change the way you are doing this project?
What went well, or is going well?
Especially was created basement for the organisation. Wiki Loves Monuments was quite successful, however media impact was poor. Wikipedia contest take place now on Wikipedia and there is 20 participants (but the contest is not completed yet).
What did not go well, or is not going well?
I recommend to new organisations to have confirmed address and another important things very firmly, because such things as organisation without address can lead to many problems. I.e. we wasn't able to open a bank account during cca 1 year because of this and so postponed launch of test projects (made by this grant).
Wiki Loves Monument SK 2012 was launched in half of September (so half of the contest). It was done by members decision during Generally Assembly. Board in advance (May 2012) made resolution to not organise WLM SK 2012 because of lack of organisers resources. Fortunately, in meanwhile the technical part was developed. I highly recommend launch such contests with preparation!
From your answers above, do you plan to change anything you are doing as your project continues?
This-year WLM SK was launched prepared much more better.
Not applicable to others line-items.

Project goal and measures of success[edit]

This section should reference the project goals and measures of success described in the approved grant submission. See Grants:PEG/Wikimedia Slovakia/Start-up/Report to review the goals and metrics listed in the approved submission.

Project goal[edit]

Provide the project goal here.
First goal is to reimburse our costs during first year of WMSK, when we hadn't a proper bank account.
Do you expect to reach your project's goal? Why or why not?
We reached the goal because we are reimbursed.

Measures of success[edit]

List the measures of success exactly as provided in the approved grant submission, and evaluate your project according to each measure listed there. Answer only for measures on which you are currently able to report since your project has not been completed.
proposals for collaboration from another organisations (GLAM etc) (applicable)
more trust in wiki projects amid Slovak public (applicable)
Provide an overall assessment of how your project is going according to these measures.
These measures are only partly applicable for past activities. But we have already received a proposal for leading workshop to educate NGOs how to utilise Wikipedia for informing about their field of interest, and 3 speaks for teachers or students (2 are already done). Trust of Slovakian teachers in Wikipedia became larger (based on personal discussions with them).
While doing this project, have you decided to track any other measures of success not listed in your grant submission? If so, please list them here.
No.

Impact[edit]

Remember that you will need to report on your project's impact on WMF's mission and strategic goals in your final report.

Wiki Loves monuments SK 2012
There was 762 photos uploaded by 29 authors during the contest. Collaboration with Slovak Institute of Monuments (PUSR) was began, what helped with WLM SK 2013. During preparation of the project was created lists of cultural monuments on Slovak Wikipedia and started categorization of files on Commons. These lists was utilised in WLM SK 2013 too. We pushed PUSR to improve their website (which provide official list of monuments) so it is intended that it will be much more simpler to link individual monuments from Wikipedia list.
Media coverage was poor because the contest was launched after last moment and without plans for media covering. It was launched by members decision with motto "as we have technical part done, we can launch the contest" with consideration that we can run it only on bare minimum.

Administration and office
Change of address (change of bylaw was needed) made us able to run organisation with all official affairs (second registration on authorities, run a bank account etc.). This had only indirect impact as it allowed us to run projects oriented to creation of educational content on online wiki projects. Change of bylaw had also affect to long-term organisation running as was changed some unclear formulations and improved process of decision making.
Printing a business cards probably had affect to our partners as it usually make people more official-look and add credibility. But we can not to measure this affair.
Travel
During generally assemblies and organisational meetings was made decisions to run Wiki Loves Monuments (impact see above), was discussed plans for future and prepared our first grant project (Wikipedia workshop within KAEST). These meetings had indirect impact to online wiki projects as they was intended to help run the organisation. Please note, that another organisational meetings took place on another occasions and was covered from another sources or during another WM related meeting and dind't need to be covered from this grant.
Wikipedia contest Day of financial literacy: Project that take place now on Slovak Wikipedia so the not all results are visible yet. We had started collaboration with partner foundation Nadácia PARTNERS which donated prizes for winners of this contest. There was small media coverage in Slovak internet. You can see participants on sk:Wikipédia:Deň finančnej gramotnosti/Súťažiaci (the contest end after week).
Wikimedia Conference 2013: Indirect impact again. There was trained two our members about running various projects and organisation. Contact to important persons from Wikimedia movement, both global and local, was created. This conference helped us and is still helping to utilising our efforts and time in more effective way.
Speak and seminar: Both of them was oriented to teachers of basic and hight schools. It was expressed that such teachers often have no big confidence to informations in open encyclopedia like Wikipedia. So we had made speak for teachers to convince them about credibility of Wikipedia. As one result we was invited to 2 more speaks for schools. During these speaks was presented manners how to utilise WM projects in schools. These impacts are difficulty traceable because, especially in basic schools, such online open education resources are used during education process but not so much new content is added. So it can increase readability of our open educational resources but no so total amount of them.

Reporting and documentation of expenditures[edit]

This section describes the grant's use of funds
