Goals and measures of success[edit]

Project goal[edit]

The goal of this project is to support and promote Wikimedia movement in India. This would be achieved by organising and supporting various projects related to Wikipedia and its sister projects in India. Apart from this, we would be initiating a pilot outreach effectiveness measurement program. It will devise ways to followup periodically with the attendees, assess their feedback and attempt to track their involvement in Wikimedia projects after the event.

Measures of success[edit]

We will organise or support a minimum of 2 events (wikiacademies, meetups, workshops, editathons) per month during the 3 month grant period. We will extend our support to all relevant outreach events initiated by the community to the fullest possible extent. By the end of the grant period, we would have a rudimentary effectiveness measurement model in place to assess future outreach events and track the post-event Wikimedia activities of attendees.

Impact[edit]

Fit to strategy[edit]

The Wikimedia India Chapter has emerged as the nodal organisation for the Indian Wikimedia Community for organising outreach and community events. By initiating community driven events and providing continuous support for community grown projects we have made sure the tempo of Wikimedia in India has accelerated. Local communities are essential for the growth and development of Indic wikiprojects. By initiating a pilot project to measure outreach effectiveness, we are aiming to increase the reach of such events in the future.

Benefits[edit]

  • This project will benefit all the Indic language projects by providing continuous support to local community projects and events.
  • The outreach effectiveness measurement effort will make headway in assessing and tailoring future outreach effects in India and in other countries.

The outreach effectiveness measurement effort if successful can be adopted and customised by other countries where frequent outreach events are organised.

Notes[edit]

  1. Not all the events already executed and planned have required the Chapter to spend funds. By being resourceful we have managed to eliminate or reduce costs in many of them.
