Grants talk:PEG/WM MX/Wiki Loves Monuments 2013/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Thank you for your thorough report and congratulations on a successful project! We are impressed with your ability to integrate new volunteers, secure sponsorships, and develop relations with the media. We have a few questions/comments and would appreciate your response.

  1. Did you use the Glamorous Tool to see how many photos from the competition have been integrated on wiki projects? The tool is very helpful in measuring the longer-term impact of photo projects. Please let us know the results. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 19:05, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
According to the tool, only 109 images was used until today. We will think in an idea internal or external to the chapter for increase this number. --ProtoplasmaKid (WM-MX) (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Do you know why Merida decided to cancel their participation? Was it the editing community that cancelled or the organizer? Do you have ideas on how this can be avoided in the future? Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 19:05, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Mainly the lack of previous time of local volunteers to plan and the lack of institutional support that was promised to them at the beginning. This is preventable in the future with more months of planning and the prevision in funds of travel by someone in the chapter into the city to monitor the preconditions to occur. Due to the high attendance last year in Guadalajara and Puebla, we plan to extend invitations to organize more volunteer tours to more cities. We will ask enthusiasts at least sign a letter of commitment. --ProtoplasmaKid (WM-MX) (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Starting to plan earlier is a good strategy as well as more volunteer support. Thanks for your reflection. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Do you have any materials from the photography workshop that can be shared with the community? This is a great addition to the competition and I know other organizations would find them useful if they are available. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 19:05, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not at this moment, because the materials belong to Pedro Meyer Foundation and is susceptible for have copyright images. We will ask to speakers to make a free version but this is not sure to occur. If we have this kind of activity, we will ask to speakers to use and share their materials. --ProtoplasmaKid (WM-MX) (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It would be great in the future if speakers have open materials that can be shared with the community! Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Regarding the decline in participation, many grantees are facing the same challenge and I will initiate a discussion on the Wiki Loves Monuments mailing list to share ideas on how to address this. Please watch the list for more information. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 19:05, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. In past Iberoconf 2013, we spot about this in the event. One of the main ideas to do is develop more online resources for know the opinion and indeed the identity of participators. Another idea is make the contest more easy to participate. Currently the way for upload and make sure one person is participating, is some hard. --ProtoplasmaKid (WM-MX) (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The WMF Program Evaluation and Design team have a number of survey tools. Please take a look and be in touch if you need support in designing surveys so you can engage participants better. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
