GAC members who support this grant request[edit]

  1. Promoting the values of our movement in order to increase enthusiasm in underrepresented regions is one of our key priorities. I'd like to endorse Polimerek's question on the main topic of the competition bellow but the project goals and the idea beyond it are pretty strong and convincing.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 08:06, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support! Seems worthy enough proposal, in a new region. Cheers for submitting. NLIGuy (talk) 05:05, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

GAC comments[edit]

What is the scope of the contest? How will you define which pictures are eligible for the contest and which not? The term "Wiki Loves Republic of Srpska" is very vague. One can take a photo of anything which exist in Republic of Srpska? Every stone, tree, road, whatever? Polimerek (talk) 21:31, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Polimerek on this question. The scope of the project is to collect photos of monuments of culture and natural monuments in the Republic of Srpska according to official lists of them. We have already started working on these lists which you will soon find on Wikipedia.--Bojana Wiki PG (talk) 13:09, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from the WM community[edit]

Tony1[edit]

Could the budget be divided into things PEG will pay for and things the other funder will pay for? Otherwise, I'm confused ... you need to seek WMF approval for a 10% change in anything in the budget, despite half coming from somewhere else? Mobile phone? Needs justification if PEG is paying for that. Could we know the prize money, who will judge, etc? Just as briefly as you can, please.

Could you please adjust the start-date to something more realistic? 1 July is retrospective. Tony (talk) 15:32, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Tony, thank you for mentioning this. WMRS and another sources will cover costs under the paragraph 2 and 4 and 80% of paragraph 3, preparation, communication and organizing an exhibition as well as overall prize giving event and part of the promo materials. Funds from WMF will be used for prizes and the rest of the promotion and promo material. --Bojana Wiki PG (talk) 13:12, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from WMF[edit]

Thank you for this proposal. We are excited to support activity in a new geography. However, before we provide more detailed comments, please let us know if there are any experienced local Wikimedians involved in the project. We understand the main organizers do not have wiki experience nor do they live in the targeted geography. To ensure success, the project will need to have at least 2-3 leaders who are familar with the principles of free licenses on Commons and able to organize volunteers and participants locally. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 23:02, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In Visegrad and Republic of Srpska there are several volunteers who are members of WMRS. They sre familiar with free licenses and working on Wikipedia. Also, many of them are people who work in educational institutions, so they have had experience in projects in which they organized volunteer work and helped them. One of the ideas when the project is submitted is to activate Wikimedians from Republic of Srpska who will constantly have support and advices from both employees and volunteers of WMRS, so at some point they start developing Wikimedia in Republic of Srpska. Regarding the adjustment date, we are already working on project activities. Creating lists, promoting and searching for places to open the event and jury members are some of the activities that we have started.--Bojana Wiki PG (talk) 13:14, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Bojana Wiki PG. Are these volunters in Visegrad and the Republic of Srpska part of the organizing team? If not, what will their role be? Can you please provide their usernames? Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 17:47, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

These volunteers are part of organizing team. Their usernames are DankaWikiRS and DraganaWikiRS. Their role would be to help with organization and achieving goal of Wikimedia movement. In addition, we talked with WMRS members and they are willing to come to Visegrad and lead and participate in editing workshops and presentation about Wikimedia and its projects. Within this budget, we can provide costs for their accommodation and transport for two times. It will be helpful and people will start to learn about Wikimedia. We already did some of media activities, which contributed in raising interest of institutions such as the community center and library for cooperation. --Bojana Wiki PG (talk) 11:06, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grant request on hold (withdrawn)[edit]

As discussed with the project organizers, we have updated the status of this grant request to "withdrawn". Unfortunately, the main experienced local Wikimedian involved in the project is no longer available. Wikimedia Serbia will work with the project team on developing their wiki skills over the next several months. They will then consider re-opening the grant request. We appreciate all the feedback on this request. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 13:59, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
