Explain your plan[edit]

Tell us about how you contribute currently, and how you would contribute if WMF were to gift a used laptop to you.

I have been contributing to Odia wikipedia, Odia Wikisource and Commons for more than a year now using an entry-mid-level smartphone. It has been incessantly difficult to edit many of the articles that have complex templates as it tends to freeze while editing. I have even lost my edits hundreds of times after spending hours to write them. It was already quite difficult when I was contributing to Wikipedia only but after I started actively contributing to [Odia] Wikisource, more recently after the second anniversary of the project, there are new layers of complications as most of the Wikimedia projects are not very mobile-friendly when it comes to editing. The lack of access to a laptop or a PC is stopping me to contribute to particularly Wikipedia and Wikisource even though I want to contribute to these. I brought up this issue with the entire community during the Odia Wikisource’ anniversary recently, and later on the Odia Wikipedia Village Pump where I got support from over 13 Wikimedians. Apart from contributing to the Wikimedia projects myself, I am also planning to contribute in offline outreach in my home [Indian] state Odisha, and online outreach programs where a computer will become really handy. My recent encounter with Wikidata has made me take more interest in the project, more because there are many entries in Odia Wikipedia that need to be added to Wikidata. I think I can give a hand to my colleague User:MKar who has been single-handedly contributing to Wikidata for long. All these projects. Getting a computer will really help me contribute to the aforementioned projects and beyond where I am literally stuck with my phone at this moment.

  • 'ବାଦ୍ୟ ଯନ୍ତ୍ର', the Odia Wikipedia article on musical instruments I had created in the early days of contribution using my phone is one of the longest articles in the project
  • I have been contributing quite actively to the International Women’s Month edit-a-thon this year, was one of the most active contributor to Wikipedia Asia Month last year, and many other ongoing projects in Odia Wikipedia
  • Have been active in guiding several fellow community members of my local community WikiTungi Puri, a city-based sub-community from the Indian city of Puri where many other members also contribute to Wikipedia with phones
