Changing MediaWiki configuration settings for RM Wikipedia[edit]

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'll try:

In rumantsch, we have some different idioms. To organise them, we have decided to post them in sub-pages (rm:Wikipedia:La_pinta#Proposta). Due to stylistic reasons, we want to "override" the titles. I think, we must set

$wgRestrictDisplayTitle = false;

but I have no idea who can do this for us...

Thanks for your help. --Gion-andri 14:01, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I don't think the people here can help you.. I believe you should place a bug.
Best regards,

Removing gadget[edit]

Do we have a procedure for removing a gadget? I'd like to remove one, but I don't know how. See MediaWiki talk:Gadget-COIBot log tool.js. --Erwin(85) 17:45, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page just gets deleted & the reference removed from the definitions page. I'll do that now.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 17:50, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Login trouble in Wikibooks[edit]

I know I've created an account with my current username in Wikibooks and that I have made one edit there, but I've forgotten my password for that particular account. Mailing the password didn't seem to have worked, because all the mail accounts that I use don't have any relevant messages (yet). I might wait in 24 hours, but if all else fails, I'd like to get my password e-mailed to me. -Mardus 08:46, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you check your mail accounts' spam folder? It might be in there. If not, I suggest unifying your accounts and requesting for Mardus@wikibooks to be renamed. You can then login there using your now unified account. It's also possible to request renaming without unifying your accounts and then you'll simply need to re-create the account at Wikibooks. As you've only made one edit there this is probably the easiest solution. --Erwin(85) 09:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. Nothing I could see in spam folders and I've put a rename/usurpation request and so right about now I feel like dead in the water when it comes to this account. I am contemplating unifying the accounts. -Mardus 14:13, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've unified all but three of the following accounts:
  • en.wikibooks.org
  • fr.wikipedia.org
  • sl.wikipedia.org
What next?
-Mardus 20:16, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mardus, Your account on en.wb and fr.wiki has only one contribution, I would recommend to ask for usurp (see interwikilinks on SR/SUL), sl.wiki has 0 contributions, also usurp should be no problem there, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:19, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Smaller Wikipedia picture files[edit]

I have compressed the main wikipedia header and several other wikimedia logos. Could a sysop please update the main page with these smaller pictures. Login Trouble on Meta and Commons[edit]

I have accounts on Meta (21 edits) and Commons (65 edits) but I'm unable to login with the password I wrote down when I created the accounts. I don't have an email address registered on these accounts. Is there any way to retrieve my password because I want to merge the accounts with my is:-account? Cessator --140.180.48.222 01:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cessator, try also older passwords You used, if that does not work, You could only ask a system-administrator at #wikimedia-techconnect to reset the password, since You link to Your home wikis from these two accounts they might do that (a checkuser can't be done, since the last edits are too long ago). Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 01:42, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(P.S. if they deny a password reset ask at the local requestpages for renaming (links see interwikilinks at SR/SUL) these accounts to something else (You will need to confirm that they are Yours from Your home-wiki too), note that then the edits would be assigned to the other accountname, so this is not the prefered option, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 01:44, 25 February 2009 (UTC) )[reply]
They were very helpful and it worked. Thanks :) --Cessator 02:18, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great, account is now a perfect sul accounts (no unattached ones, don't trust what the toolserver says these months :) )

Please protect the page Book tool/Help/Books/pt at the autoconfirmed level. Reason: the sidebar from pt.wikipedia and pt.wikisource points to that page and newbies don't stop to make tests on the page. 555 22:56, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking accounts[edit]

HI there. I'm not sure what all the different rules globally are, so I figured I'd ask here for some help. I've been dealing with a serial sockpuppet on enwiki who seems to have created accounts on other wikis as well (within the same week); but hasn't made any edits. User:Rubohcity has an account here and enspecies (Commons was blocked), Methron on Commons (there's a Methron on ptwiki, but it looks unrelated), 33ohmygad on Commons, enbooks, ennews, enquote, ensource, enversity, enktionary, here, species, and mediawiki, and TheWrongster on here. Should I contact each project locally or could these be dealt with here? Thanks, Stepshep 03:09, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
If you say there are also names that are unrelated I would say you can better contact all wikis locally. I don't think a steward is going to do a global block if there are maybe uninvolved people blocked with it. And if a user is a sockpuppet will that mean it have to be blocked on all wikis? I mean being a sockpuppet isn't forbidden on wikis, abuse with sockpuppets is.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 03:13, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Stepshep, You can request locks of global accounts at SRG, usually this is done for cross wiki vandals and/or abusive accountnames, please give a justifications for the lock and one or more stewards will review the request, many thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the replies. Only one account looked unaffected due to the fact that it was not an English wiki, registered almost a year ahead of time. The rest appear to have been auto-created on the same day or the next day. I'll get the few that need blocked on Commons, blocked. Their admins have helped me with this before. I'm not sure if it meets global blocking standards so I'll stay away from that. Where I come from (enwiki) use of other accounts unless its your bot or a "public access account" and you deny you're that user...it's bad. Indef block all accounts. Either way, thanks for the help, Stepshep 22:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be possible to get the accounts listed above with accounts here blocked. Also I'd like to apologize for not including a link. The SPI subpage with CU evidence is here, with some accounts blocked outside of the case that are the same person here. Thanks, Stepshep 23:20, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Per the above CU cases; I'm requesting that User:TheWrongster, User:33ohmygad, and User:Rubohcity be blocked here as sockpuppets. Thanks, Stepshep 00:36, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On Changing the name of the wiki itself[edit]

I think the name of turkmen wiki (Türkmen) should be changed as (Türkmençe). Here (Türkmen)=Turkmen shows the name of the nation and (Türkmençe) is means something is in Turkmen. Here is my question in which way a wiki project should be called: as nation or language itself. For example English or Deutsch? Our keen relatives' wiki, namely Turkish wiki prefers Türkçe instead of Türk. Türkçe is structurally same with Türkmençe, and Türk with Türkmen. Same thing is also true for many of other Turkic languages (they prefer language approach by using suffixes of -çe or -ça ). It seems unfit to use the name of turkmen wiki as it is now. I want to make an application in this purpose. Would you please explain the matter and recommend someone or address to apply to. Thanks in advance!!! --Hanberke 11:47, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

anladım, but isn't this something you would and could solve rather on the relevant wiki pages, since it doesn't affect the url? very best, oscar 12:35, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for your reply Dear oscar. So, you are familiar with Turkish and Turkic languages. Cheers! Please for example click on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danube and at the left side where interwiki links are you will see both Türkçe and Türkmen. It's what I'm talking about. I cannot change it there and elsewhere. If it's URL issue, then please, if you know, tell me someone whom it may concern or a direct link to apply to. Thanks!!! --Hanberke 12:52, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your note Hanberke, try asking the developers to fix it on bugzilla (or you could try sending a note to the mediawiki-i18n mailing list). Cbrown1023 talk 17:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone impersonating me[edit]

Resolved.

It's come to my attention that someone with the username Bibliomanic15 is impersonating me. Can I have this account blocked and renamed to Bibliomanic15 (usurped) so that I can create it myself as a doppelganger account? bibliomaniac15 16:10, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
