Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat/Archives/2011-08

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

There are three requests pending...I'm reasonably sure about two of them ;p --Vituzzu 16:43, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Is there anybody out of there? --Vituzzu 11:12, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

This is one of IPs of Wikimania. It should be unblocked. Ruslik 05:51, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, if it is used to evade a ban, then it should be blocked, no matter if shared on Wikimania or not. I'd rather grant people IPBE here if needed. -Barras 07:50, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree it should be unblocked. Why would you want to grant IPBE to hundreds of people? SJ talk | translate   08:10, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Actually, the block is anon-only. People only need to log in so they can edit. And it should stay blocked. Block evading is not allowed, no matter from which location it happens. -Barras 08:18, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
I disagree, this makes editing impossible for many legitimate users in Wikimania, especially because the WiFi is open and logging in may be risky. I don't see many edits under this IP (so no disruption) and nobody said which ones are not legitimate nor who is evading a block (so no sufficient reason for blocking so many reason). I've unblocked it now, please reblock it only after addressing such issues. Nemo 10:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
I disagree with you: Courcelles stated very clearly here who evaded the block and when. Personally I think this is him too as he is one of the few langcom members present at Wikimania.[1] Therefore I agree with Barras. This IP should stay blocked (anon-only). Block evasion is never allowed. Trijnstel 11:09, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the links. The fact that evasion is not allowed doesn't mean that other legitimate users have always to be punished as well. --Nemo 14:17, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Furthermore, if they don't want to use their normal account, they can create one for insecure places. -Barras 11:13, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
This is not really an option, you're still making contributing unnecessarily complex. --Nemo 14:17, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Just to make this clear: it is not my problem that the IP is abused and that probably other people are affected as well. Abigor is blocked for a very good reason and if he uses this (or a similiar) IP again, I will re-instate the block. I'm not going to allow people to evade a block just because other might be affected as well and because he attends the Wikimania. -Barras 14:22, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
In this case whose is this problem? It is definitely not a problem of other users, and I doubt that this is a problem of Abigor. So no, this is your problem, Barras. It is up to your to solve it without inflicting unnecessary damage on others. Ruslik 20:18, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Eh... It's not Barras' fault that Abigor is evading his block... Trijnstel 20:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Barras. Abigor is blocked, and any kind of evasion is not accepted. For those who share the same IP, as Barras mentioned above, IPBE can be granted localy. Otherway, they can create a account for insecure networks. And @ Ruslik: this is not Barras´ problem if another user has misused the IP for block evasion. --WizardOfOz talk 04:05, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
There was no consensus at all to undo this block, unless another discussion happened elsewhere. Also, as a point of order, given I placed the block, why did I need to see this in the RC feed? Shouldn't someone have told me this thread was here? And, it was an anonymous only block. No one would have ever had to be given an IPBE flag to bypass it, all they had to do was log in and edit as normal, or use their public computer accounts, which many contributors already have. Courcelles 04:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I know that it was anonymous only, see above. Sorry for not notifying you, I thought that you would have seen it in this page, which is the most prominent place. Nemo 14:29, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

CU

Hi folks! As you may know, I resigned my cu access among other rights about one month ago to get some break from the privacy stuff, but due to dfergs and Mards resignation, I wondered if I could get this mop back? I resigned because this helped me to get some other stuff done and because I just needed a break from all the stuff surrounding me. If you still trust me, I'd gladly take the mop back. -Barras 20:35, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes please! We need more checkusers on Meta, so it would be great if the checkuser access would be restored here. Trijnstel 20:47, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, back with you, dferg! And thanks to all others, have received my rights and they work well! -Barras 07:42, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

I doubts that extra CUs are "needed" on a local basis mostly BUT the likes of Barras and Dferg are more than welcome as CUs aa it assists with cross wiki issues where local folk only (me) cannot help. Good to see one back and maybe another...:) --Herby talk thyme 08:24, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Hungarian central notice link

The Hungarian central notice's link brings us to Image filter referendum/en instead of Image filter referendum/hu. Please create MediaWiki:Centralnotice-pifreferendum-readmore-link/hu with the text "http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image_filter_referendum/hu" (similarly to MediaWiki:Centralnotice-pifreferendum-readmore-link/de). My profile

I entered/sent my vote correctly and notice now, afterwards (some hours), it has been accepted under the name RobSchop. But about 1,5 months ago I returned to my global original user name Dartelaar on the nl.wikipedia.org and several other projects. I guess you will see the same IP address. Please modify also on meta-wiki my login in Dartelaar (meta-wiki must have been overlooked at the time of turning back to Dartelaar). This url was delivered as a proof that I have voted, but I am not let in now, being "not recognized", haha. --RobSchop 22:23, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Deleted, thanks for reporting. You can propose a page for speedy deletion by tagging it with {{speedy}}, by the way. Jafeluv 06:49, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

All right, we don't use this template in huwiki for user pages, since they are not to be edited by anyone, but I will remember. Bináris tell me 06:59, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Updating the Hebrew Image filter referendum "vote interface"

hi, can anyone update the interface of the referendum with the translation from this page: Image filter referendum/Vote interface/he? for some reason the Hebrew voting page still appears in English. thanks, Neukoln 12:13, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

I see it in Hebrew. Try to empty your cache. Bináris tell me 12:44, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Something weird is going on. I tried that. I've also tried other browsers and no good. Other users also complained about the same problem (while others can see it in Hebrew as well). 14:13, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Probably a problem with language you use in your preferences? -Barras 14:14, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
in my wiki preferences? I'm set on Hebrew as default interface language. it doesn't make sense for me (with heb pref) to see English while you're seeing Hebrew. Neukoln 14:20, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
All good after all. The request can be archived. Sorry for the trouble. Neukoln 18:55, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

User:Jasper's Dong - block?

Looks like a vandalism only account.... someone want to investigate / block if necessary please? QU TalkQu 22:47, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Took care of him. Just one of those long-term abusers. -Barras 22:51, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
@Barras, I restored the user and user talk of Jasper Deng. Jasper's Dong. was an impersonation of the first (respected) contributor. Trijnstel 22:54, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
