Help:Renaming users

Below is a tutorial for Special:RenameUser tool which only bureaucrat & steward user group has access to.

• DO check the box "Move user talk pages (and their subpages) to new name" if it should be moved (eg. if you rename a user. if you rename a vandal/impostor the old userpage is most likely vandalism, delete it before (or delete it afterwards but don't forget to delete the redirect if you decide to move anything that should not redirect to the new username))
• DO NOT usurp accounts with contribution

  Exception: Destructive (vandalism/spamming/trolling) accounts.

Check "Yes, rename the user" checkbox to attempt a rename despite the warning

Error, account name is in use. You need to "usurp" the account

Usurpation

The interface. Mind the addition of "(usurped)" in to the username. We are renaming "Old Account" out of the way to make room for "New Account"

Notice of successful rename. You have made it possible to rename "New Account" to "Old Account". This will be the next step.
