Request for an account on the Foundation wiki

Requests and proposals Request an account on Foundation wiki Archives (current)→
This page is for requesting the creation of a user account on the Wikimedia Foundation's website (not on any other wiki).
  1. To ensure that users are already familiar with the policies of at least one Wikimedia project, those applying for an account should be administrators or active editors in good standing [on any Wikimedia wiki], particularly active editors and translators on Meta and movement-level projects, or members of a Wikimedia committee or Chapter. Creation of an account is not automatic and is subject to approval.
  2. To ensure that requests are not forged, only registered users on Meta can submit requests. Please keep this page on your watchlist and check back on your request; you may be asked for more information before a request is accepted or rejected. If you do not respond, your request may be removed.
  3. After seeing your request fulfilled, please archive your section. Thanks!

Please provide:

  • your username, with a link to a Wikimedia project where you are an admin or the names of the committee(s) or local chapters of which you are a member
  • a valid email address (not Special:Emailuser. We need a valid e-mail address to plug into the "create an account by e-mail" form.)
  • the reason(s) you need an account
  • your dated signature

Please note: You do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with most translations, and requests for accounts simply to translate will be denied. Translation work is done here on Meta-Wiki so that many people can collaborate and so that pages can be proofread before being published. If you wish to apply to do "WikiGnome work" please first spend time being active on Foundation wiki feedback or other Meta-/Foundation-level projects.

Thank you for your interest!

  • Projects where I'm involved: w:en:wikipedia, a few dozen others.
  • E-mail address: bd2412 at
  • Reason why I need an account: To provide constructive feedback on Wikimedia activities. To begin with, although I generally appreciate the utility of the Media Viewer, when I click on a picture of a staff member on the staff page, I would expect to be taken to their user page, not to a blowup of that picture. Also, I need a study performed of how non-Wikipedian readers approach disambiguation pages and hatnotes. Other things will surely follow. Cheers! --BD2412 T 19:51, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
There's almost no place to provide feedback on the Foundation wiki -- most of that is on Meta, MediaWiki, and the English Wikipedia (also some off-wiki fora such as the mailing lists). If the images were changed to go to the user page, there might be issues with attribution. Other than that, assuming a link to the description page is added, it sounds like a great suggestion for FWF. If you would like to fix some other layout issues you notice, then then might be a valid reason for an account. You don't need to use the Foundation wiki to conduct or request research either. I certainly think you're trusted enough for an account there, but that's a WMF staff decision. PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:43, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thanks for the feedback. BD2412 T 19:24, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
BD2412, PiRSquared has covered it, I certainly agree that you are a trusted user - however, we are only activating accounts for very specific purposes, usually content-related (e.g., updating chapter activities/docs). That said, if you have more specific work you'd like to do apart from the above, let me know. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 17:26, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Requesting an account[edit]

Hi Tania224, I don't think you're looking for an account on the Foundation Wiki (wmf:Main Page) -- I think you're just looking to continue working on improving Wikipedia. (Thanks for that!) The Foundation Wiki is a pretty esoteric and low traffic site, essentially the corporate face of the Wikimedia Foundation, with info about its board and staff, its policies, etc. This page is just for requesting editing access to that wiki, which many volunteers help out with. -Pete F (talk) 20:09, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
