Request for an account on the Foundation wiki

Requests and proposals Request an account on Foundation wiki Archives (current)→
This page is for requesting the creation of a user account on the Wikimedia Foundation's website (not on any other wiki).
  1. To ensure that users are already familiar with the policies of at least one Wikimedia project, those applying for an account should be administrators or active editors in good standing [on any Wikimedia wiki], particularly active editors and translators on Meta and movement-level projects, or members of a Wikimedia committee or Chapter. Creation of an account is not automatic and is subject to approval.
  2. To ensure that requests are not forged, only registered users on Meta can submit requests. Please keep this page on your watchlist and check back on your request; you may be asked for more information before a request is accepted or rejected. If you do not respond, your request may be removed.
  3. After seeing your request fulfilled, please archive your section. Thanks!

Please provide:

  • your username, with a link to a Wikimedia project where you are an admin or the names of the committee(s) or local chapters of which you are a member
  • a valid email address (not Special:Emailuser. We need a valid e-mail address to plug into the "create an account by e-mail" form.)
  • the reason(s) you need an account
  • your dated signature

Please note: You do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with most translations, and requests for accounts simply to translate will be denied. Translation work is done here on Meta-Wiki so that many people can collaborate and so that pages can be proofread before being published. If you wish to apply to do "WikiGnome work" please first spend time being active on Foundation wiki feedback or other Meta-/Foundation-level projects.

Thank you for your interest!

  • E-mail address: tar.locesilion at gmail.com
  • Reason why I need an account: Right now, mainly to translate WMF wiki texts that need updating or improvement as well as old, untranslated texts that missed their Polish versions while being translated on meta. Furthermore, I'm an active member of the Polish Wikimedia chapter, so I'll be able to publish and improve Polish Wikimedia-related texts. --Tar Lócesilion|queta! 22:28, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Done. Dziękuję, Tar. Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 16:49, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

    • Dear Kotaiba Alami, your comment is a little unclear. Are you attempting to translate a particular article from Arabic to another language? I'll leave a note on your user talk page to figure out how to help. Best regards to you too, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 18:45, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

  • E-mail address: wiki at revi.pe.kr
  • Reason why I need an account: Hi. I want to update Korean translations of pages like Privacy policy(like grammar fix, change of userright name translation, typos...). Currently wmf:User:Kwj2772, korean who has access to WMF wiki is not active, so I want to fix it myself.—레비Revi 06:47, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
    • Hi Revi, thanks so much for offering help to help out with Korean translations. You don't need an account on Foundation wiki to do that. The Privacy Policy, for example, is translated here on Meta: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy/ko. You can start working on that right away! :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 01:02, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
      • Yes, I am aware of it, but for me, I see lots of difference from the Meta page and foundationwiki page. That's why I request the account. —레비Revi 17:52, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Revi, if you can help import changes from the meta ko. version to the foundation version, that would be very helpful. I've sent a login to your .pe.kr email account. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 16:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

WikiBronze[edit]

@PiRSquared17: I don't know, to be honest. I can't really tell their current status from their main page. If TransCom is inactive does it mean so are the Translation teams? --WikiBronze [T] 19:53, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
/me pings Thehelpfulone. PiRSquared17 (talk) 20:42, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
  • You're free to re-activate the Turkish translation team; I've updated the page with a current list of work to do.
  • Our current focus is Meta-Wiki, not foundationwiki; I've clarified the relevant page.[2] The page already says that a foundationwiki account is not required so I didn't find anything else to correct; in general, the reason why this page is less active is that now most translation coordinators are WMF staff.
  • It's not known what languages they focus on, but that doesn't matter much to you: what's most helpful is recruiting/encouraging translators, assisting them with the interface and other technical stuff and coordinating/double-checking each other on terminology etc. (sometimes via wiki glossaries for the language). You can also use Meta:Babylon/Translation_stats to see how well you're doing. --Nemo 09:11, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
@Nemo bis: Thanks for your respond & the changes you've done. I will update the page and notice our main translation group to sign up on the team page at once. --WikiBronze [T] 20:22, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

  • Projects where I'm involved: w:ar:https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/مستخدم:Zen_alramahi, , etc.
  • E-mail address: zen alramahi@wikipedia.org
  • Reason why I need an account: I'd like to done my own request at FWF (It's not developer's part actually - I cant set an extension. I hope I could have not just an account, but also ns8 access) and then do other stuff like translation the interface (there is quite many things that cant be done here or at twn), . --Zen alramahi (talk) 17:33, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Hello Zen alrahami. Could you be more specific about what you would like to do on Foundation wiki with account access? (and which extension are you having trouble with?) In terms of translation, as you can see above, we don't usually give access just for that work - what are some of the things you want to do that can't be done here or at translatewiki.net? (Sorry for the late reply - there is some transition between myself and Anna, who was in charge of helping with requests previously :() PEarley (WMF) (talk) 14:44, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
