Request for an account on the Foundation wiki

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Jump to: navigation, search
Requests and proposals Request an account on Foundation wiki Archives (current)→
This page is for requesting the creation of a user account on the Wikimedia Foundation's website (not on any other wiki).
  1. To ensure that users are already familiar with the policies of at least one Wikimedia project, those applying for an account should be administrators or active editors in good standing [on any Wikimedia wiki], particularly active editors and translators on Meta and movement-level projects, or members of a Wikimedia committee or Chapter. Creation of an account is not automatic and is subject to approval.
  2. To ensure that requests are not forged, only registered users on Meta can submit requests. Please keep this page on your watchlist and check back on your request; you may be asked for more information before a request is accepted or rejected. If you do not respond, your request may be removed.
  3. After seeing your request fulfilled, please archive your section. Thanks!

Please provide:

  • your username, with a link to a Wikimedia project where you are an admin or the names of the committee(s) or local chapters of which you are a member
  • a valid email address (not Special:Emailuser. We need a valid e-mail address to plug into the "create an account by e-mail" form.)
  • the reason(s) you need an account
  • your dated signature

Please note: You do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with most translations, and requests for accounts simply to translate will be denied. Translation work is done here on Meta-Wiki so that many people can collaborate and so that pages can be proofread before being published. If you wish to apply to do "WikiGnome work" please first spend time being active on Foundation wiki feedback or other Meta-/Foundation-level projects.

Thank you for your interest!

Base

  • Projects where I'm involved: w:uk:user:Base - here i'm rollbacker, editor and just it's my homewiki; q:uk:user:Base - here i'm a sysop; n:uk:user:Base - here i'm quite active; user:Base, d:user:Base - here i'm a translate admin
  • E-mail address: base-w at yandex.ru
  • Reason why I need an account: I'd like to done my own request at FWF (It's not developer's part actually - I cant set an extension. I hope I could have not just an account, but also ns8 access) and then do other stuff like translation the interface (there is quite many things that cant be done here or at twn), and perhaps updating/fixing some minor things. --Base (talk) 17:31, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

One example is the Wikibooks logo on this page that hasn't at all been fixed for more than a year already. I should provide feedback, but I prefer to fix it myself. Thanks! --Hydriz (talk) 04:46, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Liangent[edit]

  • Projects where I'm involved: w:zh:User:Liangent, mw:User:Liangent
  • E-mail address: liangent at toolserver.org
  • Reason why I need an account: Someone told me that I should apply for an account for further technical maintenance work. --Liangent 15:45, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
While we love people who are willing to help out, requests for accounts to do unspecified "maintenance work" are typically not going to be approved. If there are specific projects upon which you wish to work, please let me know and we can re-evaluate. Thank you! Philippe (WMF) (talk) 13:03, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Liangent is an active MediaWiki developer. You should be grateful he's offering to help with technical maintenance of the site. Please approve this request. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:23, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
I would be very happy to approve the request, in keeping with the published rules here, once he points out specific projects upon which he wishes to work. We don't pass out accounts except on an "as needed" basis. If there are specific tasks that he wishes to do, I absolutely support that and will happily approve it. I see nothing in my review to demonstrate that he would be anything but a net asset, but one of the reasons for the recent actions was to clean up the number of inactive accounts, and approving accounts that don't have a stated purpose flies in the face of that. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 20:28, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Excuse me? You wrote "... but one of the reasons for the recent actions was to clean up the number of inactive accounts ..." Can you please explain what you're talking about here? --MZMcBride (talk) 23:07, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

    • This editor has made numerous unsuccessful rights requests in the past few months: he even has three open right now - User:Rschen7754/Reports/Cross-wiki hat collectors/Ty221. --Rschen7754 18:26, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
      • Thanks for volunteering to translate! Until the translation extension is installed on the Foundation wiki, translation work is done here on Meta-Wiki so that many people can collaborate and so that pages can be proofread before being published. Therefore, you do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with translations. You can start translating right now by looking at the current translation requests. Urgent fixes can be submitted to the feedback page. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 20:44, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

  1. Improve pages like This one.
  2. Translate interfaces to zh, zh-yue, zh-hant and zh-hans.--Gabrielchihonglee (talk) 09:56, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Translations are generally not a valid reason to request an account, since they are done on Meta. I don't see a clear reason why you need an account; "improve pages" is not specific enough.--Jasper Deng (talk) 16:53, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Interface is translated @ https://translatewiki.net/ not locally. --Jeremyb (talk) 03:16, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
    • Just as a point of clarification, it doesn't seem that the Foundation is interested (at least not at present) in translating their wiki - I've been trying to chase them up since at least February, but have not received response. Thehelpfulone 05:55, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
@Thehelpfulone: Please tell me if they ever reply. ;) PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:22, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Currently wmf:User:Kwj2772, korean who has access to WMF wiki is not active, so I want to fix it myself.—레비Revi 06:47, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
    • Hi Revi, thanks so much for offering help to help out with Korean translations. You don't need an account on Foundation wiki to do that. The Privacy Policy, for example, is translated here on Meta: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy/ko. You can start working on that right away! :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 01:02, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
      • Yes, I am aware of it, but for me, I see lots of difference from the Meta page and foundationwiki page. That's why I request the account. —레비Revi 17:52, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

@PiRSquared17: I don't know, to be honest. I can't really tell their current status from their main page. If TransCom is inactive does it mean so are the Translation teams? --WikiBronze [T] 19:53, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
