  • Given the unique textual challenges of rendering non-Latin characters, I would concur in this request as not being a translation request, but rather a stylistic formatting request. Further, his extensive crosswiki experience at [2], gives me confidence that he is adaptable enough to work in an environment like the WMF-wiki. MBisanz talk 23:54, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Waldir

  • User:Waldir. Admin on pt.wikipedia and commons, member of the pt.wikipedia arbcom (thus identified to the WMF), founding member of the Wikimedia Portugal chapter. I need an account to provide info about Wikimedia Portugal. Email: waldir@email.com --Waldir 08:36, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi Waldir, can you provide me with evidence that you are a founding member of Wikimedia Portugal? A mailing list reference would do (I am on internal-l) but I can't find anything obvious on the chapter's page on meta, and since I can't read Portuguese, am relying on Google Translate anyway... Thanks. —Sean Whitton / 09:17, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi, Sean. I am not a member of the internal-l mailing list, since we haven't elected our board members yet. However, the chapter was officially created as a legal organization in Portugal yesterday, as I announced on our mailing list (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.org.wikimedia.portugal/58) and on chaptercommittee-l. I was one of the two people (required by the Portuguese law) to be present on the moment of constitution. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers, Waldir 09:52, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I will investigate. In the meantime, could you check your e-mail address, please? As email.com is a domain parking page, I am wondering if you perhaps meant gmail.com, as so many Wikimedians use. Please confirm or correct. Thanks. —Sean Whitton / 15:11, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
No, sorry for the confusion. The email.com address is managed by http://www.mail.com, actually -- they had these two options (and many others) for the domain part of the email address but I really wanted the "email" one :) It currently redirects to my gmail account, but I use it pretty much everywhere online. So, that's correct, it's waldir@email.com --Waldir 16:25, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Erwin

I'd like to request an account to help out with Dutch translations. I'm aware that they are done here, but I'd like to be able to update them at the Foundation wiki as well, especially when they are used on multiple projects. A number of times someone requested to correct spelling errors used in messages at the Dutch Wikipedia, but we couldn't do that because they were loaded globally. I'm an admin here and a bureaucrat at my home wiki, the Dutch Wikipedia (w:nl:User:Erwin). My e-mail address is erwinwikipedia.be. --Erwin(85) 16:46, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

"especially when they are used on multiple projects", do you mean the centralnotice? If so, that's not edited on Foundationwiki, it's on Meta-Wiki. Otherwise, Erwin often helps proofread translations. Cbrown1023 talk 17:00, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi.

I am a wikimedia contributor. I did not contribute much. I have corrected as wisely as I can a few pages on wikipedia-fr, maybe one on wikipedia-en and most of my contributions have been validated by my peers, anyhow, I would like to open the discussion page on J. Wales appeal letter page (French (FR-CH/FR version) if you don't mind.

I won't need privileges for any other pages on there until I am strongly appealed to contribute by peers (I don't expect) My subscription address is le.iota@free.fr. I use this address on fr, en, and common. I am open to discussion here but don't expect me to reply as soon as I am expected.

Sorry for my poorest english :)

Hello! Discussion about pages on the Foundation wiki actually takes place here on Meta-Wiki: Foundation wiki feedback. If you have a comment specifically about that translated page, you might want to put your questions on the translation workspace. Cbrown1023 talk 15:09, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm requesting an account because there are areas of the project that require maintenance, largely of an uncontroversial nature; I don't have any specific tasks, however. Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 23:45, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey Juliancolton, could you explain what areas require maintenance and why? There really isn't much to be done on foundationwiki, other than posting translations. We also already have Wikimedia site feedback for maintenance/administrative requests. If you'd like to get more involved at the Foundation level you might want to check out ComProj, the Mailing lists, or the translations page here on Meta instead. :-) --Az1568 (talk) 01:47, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the response. It's mostly minor tweaks (spelling, wording, etc.) that I'd like to preform, and while I know that I should generally have a more specific reason for requesting an account, it seems like it would be easier for me to just click "edit" than to have to post on the feedback noticeboard. –Juliancolton | Talk 02:20, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Not done Thank you for offering a help, the reason proposed is however not enough specified to create an account, as Az1568 suggested. Please utilize Wikimedia site feedback instead and show more involvement to managerial communications. Thanks. --Aphaia 07:41, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Launchballer

Hello. I would like to request an account on the Foundation Wiki. While I am not an administrator on any Wiki at all, nor do I edit regularly and constantly, what I do have is a wealth of formatting and editing expertise. For example, when I typed "all Wiki's.", I utilised rather an unusual explainer formatting. In addition, I can also be bothered to move comprehensive and colossal categories from one title to the next should we come to that necessity.--Launchballer 18:40, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry but you don't meet the requirements. The foundationwiki is a registered charity's official website, so we can't just give accounts out to people who do not need them (and people that don't have Wikimedia experience). Cbrown1023 talk 19:11, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

I have a question and comment to add on a talk page on wikimediafoundation. I request log in rights here. I hope my record of proper use of such Wikimedia priviledges I've been granted demonstrate proper responsibility. -- Infrogmation 01:30, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Note Note: Questions and comments regarding pages on the Foundation wiki should be left at Wikimedia site feedback. Nakon 01:35, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Fr33kman

I have been registered at Wikipedia since December of 2006. I am an active administrator at Simple English Wikipedia. I am a regular reader of the WMF wiki and I am requesting an account so that I can edit pages on the WMF wiki to fix errors on pages, such as spelling and grammar errors and more importantly to add wikilinks (linking to enWP and enWIKT) for relevant or complex terms that new users of English or native users of English who have a more limited vocabulary may have difficulty in understanding. There are many pages on the wiki that have few or no wikilinks for terms and this can make reading them diffecult for some users. fr33kman t - c 23:59, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Just noting that this user was declined an account about three months ago. - Rjd0060 00:20, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for adding that. I should have done so when creating the request. I do now, however, have a very different need for requesting an account. :) fr33kman t - c 00:35, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't see the particular need for this, we don't do it on any other of our sites. If you find "spelling and grammar errors", please do leave a note on Wikimedia site feedback though. Cbrown1023 talk 00:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be better to simply make the needed changes, rather than pass the task on to someone else? Also, wouldn't it be better to add wikilinks to pages that need them? Not everyone who reads the WMF-wiki has a university education afterall. :) fr33kman t - c 01:00, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I don't understand why the desire to stop people who want to help fix spelling errors and such - it is fairly embarrassing that the public site has errors in the first place. FWIW Fr33kman is an admin on Simple Wikipedia and I trust him to use his account, should he get one, sensibly and appropriately. And I wish this knee-jerk reaction to say no to everyone would end. He's said quite clearly what he wants to do, and it's perfectly appropriate. Majorly talk 14:13, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I must say that it's becoming overwhelmingly clear a somewhat elitist mood is actively cultivated on this requests page. Why is it such a big deal for people to have accounts, when they've proven their merit here and on other projects? —Anonymous DissidentTalk 14:46, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Not done — I've thought about this carefully and would like to explain my reasoning to, hopefully, justify why there is an attitude of reluctance to create accounts on this page. I'm not going to deny this reluctance, for it is deliberately in place. There is an important difference between a public website for our registered charity, which the WMF wiki is, and a project that hosts content under a free license: something that is our face to the world requires a high level of trust and also benefits from a restricted userbase, meaning that we only add those who have a real, un- or insufficiently fulfilled role/job to help out with the site. We already have a lot of people doing general corrections, so I respectfully decline this request with the aim of reducing unnecessary accounts on the WMF wiki due to its highly sensitive nature. —Sean Whitton / 20:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

There are no updates that editors get on Foundationwiki. :-) Foundation-level discussions take place on this wiki and on foundation-l. You are free to do translation work, here on Meta-Wiki. Thanks for your interest and I look forward to seeing you active on Meta-Wiki. Cbrown1023 talk 20:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Not done per the above comments: please do translate for us, but I'm not convinced you need a WMF wiki account. Thanks. —Sean Whitton / 19:05, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment Comment There is not a administrator on Commons with this name nor does his sul shows any other admin or crat bits. Huib talk 20:48, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
er... the credentials you listed do not check out. Also, the licensing vote translations all take place here on Meta. Cbrown1023 talk 21:21, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Comment Comment this user is a well known vandal from enwiki with over a dozen socks. Reccomend blocking, not WMF access. MBisanz talk 22:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for offering to help with translations! However, you do not need an account on that wiki to translate. All translations are done on Meta-Wiki at Translation requests. We also invite you to subscribe to our mailing list to stay up-to-date with new requests and to ask questions. Thanks again! Cbrown1023 talk 17:31, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I am since august 2008 active on the Dutch Wikipedia. I have more then 3000 edits on the dutch Wikipedia. I am also active on other Wikipedia's. Mezelf14 14:21, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Why do you want an account? Majorly talk 14:46, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Oppose Oppose. User is not in need of an account on wmf-wiki, isn't aware of foundation/chapter/staff-issues and has a lot of equivocal edits on nl-wikipedia. Eager to help but not capable of helping at the moment. MarkW / Mwpnl 14:59, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

User isn't a admin on a project or is a part of a chapter therefor he does not meet the points to get a account. Huib talk 15:06, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Not done since you haven't met the most basic requirement - giving a reason for having an account! Thanks for your interest. —Sean Whitton / 14:59, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
