Requests for comment/Evaluating content of Kazakh Wikibooks

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The following request for comments is closed. The request was eventually archived as inactive.

Someone understanding the Kazakh (kk) language (Қазақ тілі) should evaluate pages at the main namespace from the kk-Wikibooks (қазақ Уикикітап) to decide whether they are appropriate for the project. I previously raised the content issue at kk-Wikipedia (қазақ Уикипедия), where there were very few responses. Then I raised the same issue at kk-wikibooks, whose Village pump has been rarely visited, and then Meta-wiki's Talk:Language committee, where I was advised to contact the stewards first if there were no responses at Kazakh-language projects.

kk-Wikibooks currently lacks local administrators and bureaucrats, so I made two requests (first, second) at Steward requests/Miscellaneous. The stewards cannot understand the language; at least they deleted only copyright infringement material and test pages per those requests.

I'm also concerned about contributions by one user Hafizman, including created pages, like b:kk:Махмұд әл-Қадр: Мақсатқа жету теориясы, b:kk:Махмұд әл-Қадр: Саған ғашық көңілім, b:kk:Бәдауи әл-Құдус діні, and b:kk:Махмұд әл-Қадрдің нақыл сөздері (which was blanked from the previous revision). They appear to be either self-promotional, out of the project's scope (i.e. not educational material), or something I could not describe well, considering that I don't understand the language as well. Same may be said about contributions by user Бауыржан Жақсылық, including page creations. Maybe I could be wrong about my concerns. However, the community of kk-wikibooks seems to have been either nonexistent or less than active. Moreover, I don't believe that raising the concerns (again) at kk-Wikipedia would help much, considering very little response to one thread that I created.

I hope that creating this subpage would attract Kazakh users, including ones who can also understand English language. George Ho (talk) 06:31, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Added history of previous closure requests. Edit: Note that this is not a closure request, which can be formally done at Proposals for closing projects. George Ho (talk) 06:41, 12 December 2018 (UTC); edited, 06:43, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In general, inclusion criteria is not clear in Wikibooks. You see books on scientific subjects as well as software manuals, while you can see cooking recipes (under the title of subproject Cookbook). All the books in Wikibooks are not suitable for students in a classroom. In some cases, the difference between Wikipedia and Wikibooks is not clear-cut. --Doostdar (talk) 22:04, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
