Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Asi

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

Eligible language. You are encouraged to contribute on incubator:Wp/bno. --Millosh (talk) 23:01, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code bno (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...

Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.

English Translation:

Good Evening to you all,

Hopefully, you would respond to this idea of having an Asi Wikipedia so that we could preserve our language... Although this language may have a small number of speakers (75,000, 2011), we still want this language to persevere onto being known. We know that the creation of this Wiki would be a big benefit for us to keep on record for others the goodness and beauty of the usage of languages like this.

Thank you so much!

Translated by Matthew Relucio, a bantoanon bilingual.

the following was originally posted on Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Bantoanon

ISO 639-3: bno Bantoanon, spoken in Romblon Province, Philippines, constitutes a separate primary branch within the Visayan languages, and is intermediate between the Western and Central Visayan languages. The Banton (prestige, considered "original" by native speakers) dialect is used. Zorc suggests that Bantoanon may have a Cebuano substratum. Basic Austronesian Vocabulary Database

The name Bantoanon is derived from the island of Banton where it was originated. Bantoanon speakers in Banton is called Bantoanon, Calatravanhon in Calatrava, Odionganon in Odionagan, Sibalenhonin Concepcion, and Simaranhon in Corcuera.

Specifically, it is spoken on the following islands within Romblon:

Tablas: the municipalities of Odiongan and Calatrava, situated respectively on the western and northern parts of the island. The Odiongan dialect has more outside influences and is more widely used in literature.

Banton: the island's sole municipality of Banton. This is the prestige dialect of Bantuanon and is considered by many native speakers to be the most representative dialect of the language.

Simara: the island's sole municipality of Corcuera. Maestre de Campo (also known as Sibale): the island's sole municipality of Concepcion [1]
