An extinct proto-language. --Millosh (talk) 07:27, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code enm (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...

Language name Middel English Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q36395 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name WIKIPÆDIA "Wikipedia" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads yes Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Continent/City "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
submit Phabricator task. It will include everything automatically, except additional namespaces/settings. After creating the task, add a link to the comment.

Proposal[edit]

I think we need a Middle English wikipedia becuAse we have and old english and modern English wikipedia old English is an extinct languge but it still has a wikipedia so I think we should have one because there's and old English so we should have middle and English then modern English

I propose that enm wikipedia be created is because it is a historical languge and is from 1100 to 1500. It was the next new languge after old English. I think it should be created because old English wikipedia was created

  • Related languages: Norman, Anglo-Saxon, Early Modern English, Danish, Dutch
  • Number of speakers: Large handful of enjoyers of medieval poetry.
  • Locations spoken: England circa 1200-1450

Also known as Medieval English. My justification for this language parallels whatever was the winning argument for the Old English(Anglo-Saxon) Wiki that is now quite large. By Middle English I mean the language as spoken and written in about 1300. It is certainly a language(incomprehensible without prepreparation), and has widespread appreciation by those familiar with the rawly-spelt editions of medieval poetry etc. It has an orthography standardised by the great poets of that era. It lacks V and J, and features the characters eth and thorn.

Discussion[edit]

Comments/Questions[edit]

Support[edit]

Support - Although I think that this proposal is pretty weak, I have to say that the test project for this is pretty impressive. I don't speak Middle English, but if I did, I would have contributed to it. Once the number of pages gets into the hundreds, I think that this could be created. Good luck! --GTAVmaster (talk) 16:09, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose[edit]

Oppose - Middle English is an extinct language, so it can't get a Wikipedia page. --TrooperAnimalLover
