Mingrelian (or Megrelian) is a South Caucasian language spoken by a half-million people in northwest Georgia. Although in the same language family as Georgian, both languages are not mutually intelligible.

[edit] Arguments in favour

  • Living language, actively used in Georgia, with many speakers. Traditionally in a separate branch from Laz since the 1500s (similar to the relation between Portuguese and Galician), both also not mutually intelligible although with many similarities. This Wikipedia would benefit people who use exclusively and almost exclusively this language in their daily life. Two native speakers already showed their intention and interest in participating in this project. --Malafaya 18:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support. There are a considerable number of speakers. A very interesting project. - Island 01:02, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
