From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
submitted verification final decision

This proposal has been rejected.
This decision was taken by the language committee in accordance with the Language proposal policy based on the discussion on this page.

A committee member provided the following comment:

An extinct proto-language. --Millosh (talk) 07:41, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code orv (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Old East Slavic Language name in English
Language name Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q35228 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name Вікіпѣдіѩ "Wikipedia" in your language
Project namespace Вікіпѣдіѩ usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace Обсуждение Вікіпѣдіѩ "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads yes Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo File:Wikipedia-logo-orv.png This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Europe/Moscow "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
submit Phabricator task. It will include everything automatically, except additional namespaces/settings. After creating the task, add a link to the comment.

Discussion[edit]

FYI: Old Russian language have their own russian wikipedia domain - I think this should treated as Requests_for_new_languages. --2A01:7B8:2011:F201:0:0:7A9:ADAB 08:20, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has almost no meaningful contents - most of them are spam or gibberish. --5.228.177.137 07:45, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also,Wikipedia's data was not imported to incubator. --5.228.177.137 07:46, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
They are not all meaningless - considering that this request is also comes with importing Wikimedia's data to Wikipedia, we don't have to prepare contents to be imported. --2A01:7B8:2011:F201:0:0:7A9:ADAB 05:50, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Do you have Wikipedia's content with XML files? For not importing,as you know,Exporting is basic for import. If not,we cannot import it. And wikipedia does not allow exporting.
  2. And,Incubator test wiki has only >50 articles. We need more content and more contributors. Not enough for now. --5.228.177.137 12:47, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In orv-wikipedia, there is not enough templates. We should import templates first.--5.228.177.137 12:47, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear 37.72.173.210, is this project will be categorized in this category? --5.228.177.137 05:45, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, because, as I said, it will not be based on orv.wikipedia articles necessarily. --5.228.177.137 04:37, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How come? Does that mean you guys don't have any data from wikimedia or there's no way to import it? --5.228.177.137 04:37, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
See above "[...] as orv.wikipedia was found to have only a few useful pages [...]" and incubator:Incubator:Importing from Incubator. --5.228.177.137 04:37, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also curious that what is the criteria of "few useful pages". --5.228.177.137 06:22, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You can see what is in Wikipedia at Special:Allpages there. --5.228.177.137 21:12, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Comment Wikimedia is turning into a dead languages club. Guys, do we really need a free knowldge in Ancient Greek in Old Russian? Yes, I can slightly agree with the point of Latin Wikipedians (Latin is the official language of Vatican), but I see no point in creating Wikipedia in languages with no native speakers, which are completely not used today. Wikisource - always welcomed, Wikipedia - sorry, no. You will just not have all words needed in the dead language to write articles. --Ochilov (talk) 21:43, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Comment 2A01:7B8:2011:F201:0:0:7A9:ADAB is blocked on Meta for LTA; 5.228.177.137 is blocked in Wikimedia Incubator because of trolling and creating a lot of nonsence and empty pages. --Ochilov (talk) 08:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's not just a few, there's at least 200 main documents we can import. Should I just copy and paste to import those articles or are there any official way to import it? --5.228.177.137 12:23, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Comment This wiki should renamed from Old Russian to Old East Slavic. --Great Brightstar (talk) 07:41, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There allready is an Old ES Wiki; see Cu:. Ilya Drakonov (talk) 19:24, 6 February 2016 (UTC).[reply]
No, it is OCS Wiki. --Great Brightstar (talk) 16:25, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Илья Драконов, Old East Slavic and Old Church Slavonic are different languages. --Ochilov (talk) 13:03, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
