Most of the South African national languages have a Wiki but for some reason the Wikipedia for Sepedi (Northern Sotho) is not present. There are indeed Wikipedias for the Sepedi relatives which are Southern Sotho (Sesotho) and (Setswana)language.

There is an online Sepedi dictionary and the development of a Sepedi Wikipedia community will contribute to the development of Sepedi as a language.

At the moment there are about 4 209 000 mother tongue speakers of Northern Sotho and they comprise 9.4% of the South African population

[edit] Arguments in Favour

  • Sepedi/Northern Sotho is one of the officially recognized languages of South Africa, and is spoken by 4,208,940 people according to the 2001 census. --Jose77 05:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Sepedi/Northen Sotho is the 4th most spoken language in South Africa followed by Setswana and English. Mohau 06:37, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Active test project. (personal issue: related to Silozi :)) --OosWesThoesBes 08:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Active Test Project has grown and now has over 230 articles. Mohau 13:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Sepedi is one of only two of the 11 official South African languages without an active Wikipedia. I was present at the first Wikipedia Academy in Africa, and there were Sepedi speakers present. I strongly feel, with the rapid growth in some South African language Wikipedias, and the future plans for their development, that Sepedi should be made live as soon as possible. [edit] Verification observations

The localisation is done. What is missing is continued effort on the Incubator. Thanks, GerardM 06:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
