This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. 'If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

====Project name and language====
I request sysop access.

Requests

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for temporary permissions and removal of access belong in other sections.

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

Romanian Wiktionary

I request bureaucrat access, since the only bureaucrat we had has quit. The vote took place here.

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, and email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information).

Romanian Wikipedia

I request checkuser access for ro:User:Gutza.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

no current requests.

Removal of access

You may request that your own access be removed here; stewards will grant such requests immediately if you provide proof that you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki. This may be accomplished most easily by placing a note in English on your local talk page confirming your request.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Romanian Wikipedia

I request to have sysop AND checkuser permissions removed from me. Currently, that would leave a single user with checkuser permissions, but on one hand he has gained the trust of the community, by being for instance recently promoted bureaucrat and on the other hand I'll inform them about my decision and urge them to hold new elections for another checkuser.

Thank you. Vlad 11:27, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think either both should keep CU untill replacement for you has been found, either both should be removed untill new elections have been held. I leave it up to another steward to make the final decision, but I tend to think that the first option is the best. Effeietsanders 12:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As we had to deal with vandals and sockpuppets in the past, for which CU proved to be a valuable tool, it might be wise not to remove from both of us. Like I've said, I've informed the community about my decision and mentioned the need for new elections: http://ro.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discu%C5%A3ie_Wikipedia%3ASfatul_B%C4%83tr%C3%A2nilor&diff=815697&oldid=814994 Thank you very much Effeietsanders for your help so far! --Vlad 12:17, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Policy is: if no 2 local checkusers, then no checkuser. So if you lose it, the other also will. However, people can still request stewards to use checkuser to help that wiki (even thought no local checkusers will exist) drini [es:] [commons:] 19:01, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The proposal was now: leave both as CU, and remove the sysop-bit. After elections, Vlad can be replaced by the newly elected person. Effeietsanders 23:47, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely, that was my proposal. As you can see, elections for checkuser are in progress: http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Candida%C5%A3i#Candidaturi_pentru_statutul_de_checkuser --Vlad 10:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please when you fullfill this checkuser request: http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_permissions&diff=533602&oldid=533598 don't forget to fulfill my request for rights removing! Thanks! --Vlad 15:47, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Gujrati, Assamese, Panjabi

I request sysop access for enabling direct transliteration like in Nepal Bhasa new: .

Thank you. Eukesh 22:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Could you explain why administrator access is required for transliteration? Do you need the import tool, for example? —{admin} Pathoschild 08:24, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I need to enter a line in monobook.js to link to the transliteration file. Thank you.--Eukesh 16:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it taking so long to cater this request? My tenure as an admin had finished by this duration in Dzonkha and Bod Skad when I last applied for temp. sysop there for the same purpose. Thanks.--Eukesh 00:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
THE REQUEST HAS BEEN HERE FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. IF THIS REQUEST DOES NOT QUALIFY AS A LEGITIMATE ONE, PLEASE DELETE IT. IF NOT, PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT IT LEST I WILL REMOVE THE REQUEST MYSELF WITHIN A DAY AND PROCEED MYSELF WITHOUT ENABLING THE SCRIPT ENTRY TO HELP THESE FINE LANGUAGES OF WHICH NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE HERE. THANK YOU.--Eukesh 15:40, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done It seems you already are sysop. Probably someone forgot to notify the change. --Snowdog 16:05, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Norfolk Wikipedia

I request a couple of days of sysop access at pih.wikipedia.org to delete some spam pages and create a protected titles page to fully protect them, and to also delete all the pages Bob Saget created there (approximately 100 articles), currently all empty. The wiki has only one sysop (pih:User:Pall Mall), but he has been inactive since December 29. I am administrator at the English Wikipedia (en:User:ReyBrujo) as well.

Done I'm granting temporary sysophood for 72 hours. I hope that is enough. If not, please let us know so that we can consider an extension. Expires on Wednesday, February 21 at 04:55 UTC. Redux 04:55, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mongolian Wiktionary

I request sysop access.

The site is virtually empty now and I may not have much time to spend there but I would visit it occassionally and I would clean it, keep an eye on possible vandalism and build some infrastucture, tools and basic content there as a help for future contributors unacquainted with wikis and/or wiktionaries. I am an administrator in es.wikt (wikt:es:Usuario:Piolinfax) and in nah.wikt (wikt:nah:Usuario:Piolinfax). Thanx --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 14:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC) 13:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

You seem to be describing long-term goals, which suggests you mean to require permanent adminship — although you don't need administrator access to do most of what you've described in a non-urgent situation. In order to be granted temporary access, you need to point out a present, urgent need for you to hold the status; and propose a duration for it. If you want permanent adminship on this project, you need to gain consensus locally; we cannot grant permanent status where no community exists or where the community has not approved of the user's status. Redux 13:58, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did not signed properly earlier. Well, I do not intend to be a permanent admin there, just to leave some easy paths for future contributors. The problem about gathering consensus is this: currently there is no community in mn.wikt yet. Maybe I will ask for support in mn.wikipedia. Thanks anyway  :) --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 14:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Temporary adminship is meant to be granted to address urgent situations in projects without local administrators or where the existing admins are all inactive. If you want to start building a basic infrastructure of project-space pages, for instance, you don't need administrator tools for that. A few examples in which temporary adminship can be granted: a) there is spam or vandalism that needs to addressed (deleting inappropriate pages created by vandals, trolls and spammers, for instance); b) you need to edit the MediaWiki interface for the project (only admins can edit MediaWiki pages); c) certain, specific cleanup tasks that require admin tools, such as cleaning up redirect messes left by unexperienced users or even vandals. In all of those cases, adminship is granted only for a limited period of time, and it's usually for a few days only. Redux 13:43, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunately this is not an urgent situation but what I was thinking of is cleaning this (not much, I know) and especially inserting an edittools file, most likely the one in en.wikt, because sometimes it is quite hard for me keeping the Cyrillic alphabet at hand. If I had about 48 or 72 hours (preferably during a weekend; it is then when my connection is more reliable) I could do that with plenty of time. Thanx once again, Redux :) Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 15:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Miscellaneous requests

Requests that don't fit in other sections belong here. Note that the following types of requests belong on separate pages: bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and requests for CheckUser queries.

ar wiki

Please de sysop me. I am resigning from Bureaucrat, checkuser, and Sysop lists in ar wiki.My edit summery in my user page confirm my ID. --Tarawneh 13:35, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibooks Alemannics

I request sysop access.

I would like request sysop access for a year, because the Wikibooks Alemannics has just started in january 2007, and then I can better to build the Alemannic Wikibooks. The Wikibooks has only one sysop. There are a problem, because there are some pages, that should deleted, and anybody can delete those pages. Thank you.
