If there is an active bureaucrat on the local wiki, please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:Renameuser on the relevant wiki. If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect.

[edit] Making a request for your own account

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formless request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point even if there's no community on the project. Ensure that you don't request renaming another user. Please make sure before posting your request here that the username that you want to have is still free. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to the user contributions, the account already exists.

If you want to have changed your username on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.

[edit] Making a request for an account that is not yours

If you want to have an account renamed because it's name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

I am User:I on 22 wikimedia-projects (see: User:I/Matrix). But there are 5 more wikimedia-projects, where there is an User:I, but it is not me. First case is id.wp: The local community is working on an policy to ursurp username. So I will have to wait for this policy. Second case is pl.wp. The local community is working on a policy to ursurp usernames with a small number of edits. So I will have to wait for this policy. But there are 3 more cases left:

On April 22 I asked the local 'crat ja:利用者‐会話:Tomos for ursurpation of User:I. I got no answer. On April 26 I found the page ja:Wikipedia:利用者名変更依頼 and made a ursurpation request on that page. I got no answer. On May 6 I asked again on that page. But until now I got no answer.

on April 22 I asked the local 'crat ko:사용자토론:ChongDae‎ for ursurpation of User:I. I got no answer, but within hours ChongDae registered his own SUL account. On May 7 i asked him again. But until now I got no answer.

Someone (not me) created User:I on sv.wikiqoute 10 hours after I ursurped the account at sv.wp. I thought this was pure coincidence and tried to contact a local 'crat about the matter. There are 2: Both have left the project, one actually left an "Elvis hast left the building"-message on his user page, the other stopped editing 2 years ago and came back only once to delete his user page. So I asked a local admin for help‎. q:sv:Användardiskussion:Thuresson is the only active admin and the only regular user on sv.wikiqoute. He replied once but was not helpful at all. The User:I made 3 edits: The first was a request for the deletion of page "Wikipedia". Until now this deletion request has not been decided. The second edit was on my user talk page. He wrote that I cannot ursurp his account, thereby making it clear that he knows about SUL and ursurpation. While I thought of coincidence until then, I now know that the account was only created to annoy me. The third and last edit of this account seems to be a relevant addition to an article.

you should delete your SUL before (here) then ask usurpation on each project locally. PS SUL would resolve single login' issue, so, why 2 usernames? --Nick1915 - all you want 16:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Because some of my contributions on sl.wiki are same as my school tasks, so I need to show to my professors that text is relay my and not only copy-pasted from wiki. Try to let all your accounts be renamed to your preferred name (all to the same of course) and if all are done, globalize your account again. If you have an account that must be renamed on a wiki without active bureaucrats (try to mail them if they are not editing anymore) then you can list these wikis here and we will do it then. --Thogo (talk) 15:48, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

  • On hold. ja.wp does have 6 bureaucrats and sh.wp does have 3 bureaucrats. I cannot speak either languages, either. This account was created abusively by a certain somebody and I need this renamed so that I may claim ownership of my alias in my quest for SUL. Hi, I do not see a big window there, his last edit was on 27. he renamed some people on 26. and on 19. between those two renames he was inactive, so, as I said, he does the renames from time to time. I wrote him an email now since people are getting impatient. But wont rename there now, I don't see why this can't wait some days, please feel free to correct me, but I can't see why it has to be done that urgent. I'm asking for usurpation to complete the unified login process. I'm a sysop at pt.wiki since the end of 2006. The same user at Commons and Meta belongs to me. The person that created this account at ga.wikiquote clearly created this account to affect me, doing the same at ga.wiki, gd.wiki, en.wiki and simple.wiki, in the same week. But I don't have to request locally for Usurpation, and local requests were also not required at the SUL requests page. And it doesn't say so above either. Could someone please clear this up? --Head 08:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
No to your first question. Usurpation should be requested on particular projects, and each local community decides on their policies and circumstance. Creating a global account doesn't mean you are allowing to usurp all local existing usernames at this moment. --Aphaia 17:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I have a unified login with global name Shyam. There are two accounts, as specied above, which need to be changed. I tried to contact local 'crats, but did not get helpful response. I e-mailed the 'crats, HPN@knwp and Yosri@mswp. Yosri did not respond to e-mail. I e-mailed Yosri on April 2. I got a response from HPN. I am quoting the reply here:
"Hello, I'm unsure about the current policies regarding this. So, I'm not
sure whether I can help you here.
You could try contacting a steward on Wikipedia or any other sysop."
