This page hosts requests for a username change on a Wikimedia wiki with no active bureaucrats. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Please note: local requests for this wiki go to Meta:Changing username. In the future (after SUL finalisation in August), global username changes may be requested here to be done by stewards. |

Instructions [edit]
Before posting here [edit]
If there is an active bureaucrat on the local wiki (type Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat), please ask them to fulfill your request on the relevant wiki. Sometimes Project:RENAME redirects to the local request page and the Index of pages where renaming can be requested may also be used to help you locate the right page. If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect.
Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request and DO NOT just request to rename at all projects. Renaming in all wikis with bureaucrats should be handled locally.
How to add an entry here [edit]

Making a request for your own account [edit]
For changing your username on one wiki:
Please include the following information in your request:
- the old username,
- the new username,
- the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
- a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your local account
If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.
For changing your username on several wikis:
If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.
Making a request for an account that is not yours [edit]
If you want to have an account renamed because it's name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:
- the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
- the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
- the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.
If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Requests for renaming your own account [edit]
Please add new requests at the end of the page. Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects please.
Waldir@wm2007.wikimedia [edit]
- Wiki: wikimania2007.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Waldir (talk • edits • logs • SULinfo • cross-wiki-contribs • CentralAuth)
- New Username: Waldir (talk • edits • logs • SULinfo • cross-wiki-contribs • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: I was invited to Wikimania on April 30 and registered on May 16, but apparently all my edits were done anonymously.
- Reason: I need the account to be merged to my global account, not renamed. I don't remember the password I used for that account, and I'm not sure whether I had set an email address. However, Special:PasswordReset gives no error when I provide the username and my email address; it says "A password reset email has been sent." But I don't get any such email. Waldir (talk) 21:53, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Stewards: rename user
- It seems like you set an email address which you today do not use anymore. For solving this problem, I suggest you simply wait until the account gets renamed away automatically at the end of the month. I don't think anything can be done to attach this account to you, if you can't recover access to it. I have such accounts with 0 edits as well. --MF-W 22:01, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, my eswiki account (one of the first I created) also had an email set, but I didn't remember that at the time SUL first came into effect back in 2008, and since I couldn't remember the password either, I asked for usurpation, which was granted. So it definitely seems technically feasible... --Waldir (talk) 22:52, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, yes, in this case here, we can rename Waldir@wikimania2007 to Waldir_(usurped)@wikimania2007. A similar action is scheduled to take place on 27 May automatically. The problem here is however that the wiki is closed, so you can't create a new account. --MF-W 23:00, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm missing something. With eswiki, the account was usurped and merged to my global account, rather than renamed to something else and a new account created in its place. Why can't the wm2007 one be dealt with similarly? --Waldir (talk) 00:11, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- At that time, it was possible for stewards to merge an account. Nowadays, this function does not exist anymore, and only the user himself can merge through Special:MergeAccount (when it works). --MF-W 00:17, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, bummer :( I thought that this would only be disabled after the announced SUL finalization that's going on. I wonder if I can convince the wmf ops to open an exception during this process... --Waldir (talk) 10:43, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Update: Chatting with Reedy on IRC, I just got confirmation that the account actually was never mine to begin with. Some other guy, from Brazil, registered it (ironically, he inserted an @oul.com.br email, probably a typo of the much more likely uol.com.br, so even he would be unable to recover the account's password) before I got around to create my account there. This at least explains why all my edits were anonymous. I am lazy sometimes, but not *that* lazy :P
- Anyway, since this request was based on misguided premises, I guess it can be closed. Thanks for bearing with me along the way :) --Waldir (talk) 23:29, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
