Instructions

Before posting here

Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request, unless you are requesting a completely global rename.

How to add an entry here

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname@xxproject ===
{{SRUC
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = xx.project
 |Oldname    =
 |Newname    =
 |confirmation = [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]<!--Local request link-->
 |reason     = (your remarks here) ~~~~
}}

For example:

}}

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.

For changing your username on several wikis: If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like. If you wish to be renamed on all wikis, and there is no existing local or global account at the new name, you can simply put "global", and you will be globally renamed.

Making a request for an account that is not yours

If you want to have an account renamed because its name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Private requests

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent to stewards(at)wikimedia.org.

SUL account deletions

Please specify the account to be deleted, e.g. by linking to the Special:CentralAuth page for it, and the reason for it.

Requests

Please add new requests at the end of the page. Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects please.

Local renames are no longer possible by local users as per gerrit:160158. Thus, this is to be done by stewards. Vogone (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi User:Chess. So you want your 123chess456 accounts on commons, simplewiki, simplewikt and wikidata to be renamed to "Chess"? --MF-W 15:50, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, I've usurped on enwiki, so please change all of my accounts that you are able to to "Chess". I will have to make an usurp request on every individual wiki? Chess (talk) 20:03, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
There is not yet "global usurpation policy", so I guess you will have to request usurpation locally for now and the bureaucrats will have to ask Stewards to fulfill those local requests. –xeno 20:36, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Per Xeno above, we can't start ignoring local usurpation guidelines, asking local bureaucrats for comment might indeed be the best solution, though we also have to keep in mind that this is atransitional period to SUL finalisation where all these accounts will be forcibly renamed. Done on es.wiki - as a local bureaucrat - and on enwikibooks and enwiktionary per previous precedents. Savhñ 20:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC) And some more (kawikibooks, trwikibooks, trwikiquote, mediawikiwiki, jawiki) based on previous precedents. Savhñ 21:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Two issues should be separated here: 1.) The renaming of the remaining 123chess456 accounts who have edits to the new name; 2.) The renaming ("usurpation") of the unattached Chess accounts.
In order to solve 1.), I have just done the following renames: (so please visit Special:MergeAccount)
Chess@commons->Chess (self-usurped)@commons
123chess456@commons->Chess@commons
123chess456@simple->Chess@simple
123chess456@simplewikt->Chess@simplewikt
Chess@wikidata->Chess (self-usurped)@wikidata
123chess456@wikidata->Chess@wikidata
The only remaining 123chess456'es with edits are on Meta and enwiki. That is obviously unsolvable at the moment, maybe you will want to request a merge when that function exists. --MF-W 21:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Mr Wolf 80@global

Target name exists in English and Russian Wikipedias, you should usurp they first.--Anatoliy (talk) 20:36, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
@Mr Wolf 80: I've usurped the local accounts. Due to the delay in this request, please respond here and then I'll globally rename your account. I don't want to just rename you without any notice, that could be confusing :-) Ajraddatz (talk) 19:09, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Everlake

It seems user:djpheifer already exists is that your own account ? If so please confirm request from that account for usurption or else preferably think of different name,. If available you can provide link to nl usurption policy if any.
Mahitgar (He who knows ,wants to know and and loves to keep others informed) (talk) 16:53, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
@Everlake: is the current djpheifer account yours? Either way it was created recently, so please choose another name if not. Ajraddatz (talk) 19:13, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Baffo@global

"The old username is used" is not really a reason for a request for rename. It appears that you are indefinitely blocked on a couple different Wikis. Can you please be more specific about why you are wanting to be renamed? Tiptoety talk 20:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Be conflicts. Example: Italian Wikipedia is created by me, but I could not access!
The name GseSro less common and like best. I think that the origin User:Baffo is English, and i did not know this. If you can change the name, thank you.--GseSro (talk) 20:38, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
That is probably an instance of bugzilla:39996. They can be renamed away. --MF-W 21:40, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Euparkeria@multiple projects

I've usurped the enwiki and commonswiki accounts but ask you for notifying the fiwiki account in advance so that they'll be able to choose a fresh username. If they don't respond within a week, please come back. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:00, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Wow, that was quick; thanks a lot! --Valkyr (talk) 04:29, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Runab@global

Done enwiki. Please leave the mediawiki.org account a notice on their talk page making sure that they aren't super attached to that username, and giving them the chance to pick a new one. Ajraddatz (talk) 15:22, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
On mediawiki.org sent me here, but this page wasn't active from August and probably nobody visits admins. What I do? Runab (talk) 18:27, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
@Runab: sorry for not being clear, I meant to ask the Runab account on mw.org on their talk page. If they don't answer in a while (maybe a month?), then I will usurp the account. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:30, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

jmh649@global

Everything seems to be in order, and username "Doc James" is not registered anywhere, so I will make this change. Due to the large number of edits, the process may take a while and it is better you log out and refrain from editing until it's done. Please confirm when you're ready. — Yerpo Eh? 13:37, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Users who are being renamed globally are prevented from logging in automatically. --MF-W 16:22, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for clarifying; I've triggered the process. — Yerpo Eh? 17:42, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Done by Yerpo (btw Yerpo, please make sure you contact either Legoktm or Hoo man before performing a rename of a user with over 50k contributions in the future) Ajraddatz (talk) 23:42, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, did I make a mess somehow? Where can I find such guidelines for the future? — Yerpo Eh? 05:08, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
It's all on the Global rename policy :) Ajraddatz (talk) 15:31, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

tilo@enwiki

 Not done User Tilo has more than 100 times edits than you! Please, choose another name. Ruslik (talk) 19:16, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: Are you sure? To me it looks like en:User:Tilo has no edits at all. Vogone (talk) 19:47, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Tiago Dias@ptwiki

Done. You can now add ptwiki to your SUL. Ajraddatz (talk) 23:40, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Rossi pena@ptwiki
