This page hosts requests for a username change. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Global username changes may also be requested here to be done by stewards and global renamers.

This is also the page where stewards can be requested to deal with problems relating to the unified login feature. These include:

  • Usurpation of accounts
  • Deletion of global accounts
Cross-wiki requests
Meta-Wiki requests

Instructions[edit]

Before posting here[edit]

Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request, unless you are requesting a completely global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname@global ===
{{SRUC
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain = global
 |Oldname =
 |Newname =
 |confirmation = [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]<!--Local request link-->
 |reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

For example:

For global rename requests:

=== Example@global ===
{{SRUC
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain = global
 |Oldname = Example
 |Newname = Foo
 |confirmation = [http://meta.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Example&curid=4728&diff=26597&oldid=20341]
 |reason = <your remarks here>
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • a link to the (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.

For changing your username on several wikis: If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.

Making a request for an account that is not yours[edit]

If you want to have an account renamed because its name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent to stewards(at)wikimedia.org.

SUL account deletions[edit]

Please specify the account to be deleted, e.g. by linking to the Special:CentralAuth page for it, and the reason for it.

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request requires no stewardship, you have two options:

  1. Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed.

Spike@plwiki[edit]

You have been allocated the global account by the formula determined by Wikimedia. Are you sure that you wish for this account to be moved?  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:02, 28 March 2015 (UTC)`
Hi, I am en:User:Spike. Just to give full information: The reason that pl:User:Spike/pl:User:Spike78 is requesting this name change is because I had sent him an e-mail where I had asked him for the name change so that I could take over the global account "Spike" and he had graciously accepted. User Spike (talk) 15:22, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
  • YES, and if next redundant question is to be like "r u sure that u r sure?"... Spike78 (talk) 08:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
  • YES, im sure that im sure. Spike78 (talk) 08:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
@Spike78: Would you rather that we move the account to the global account Spike78?  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:55, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done - Spike78 has another pl.wiki account "Grzegorz "Spike" Rendchen". There is no easy solution. It has been 3 weeks and by now the SUL finalisation will hinder the en.wiki Spike. I have renamed as was requested. Other name changes can always be requested in the future. All the best, Taketa (talk) 08:02, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Honey@en.wikipedia.org[edit]

The other person didn't create "Honey" account in 2013, but in 2005, see pl:Specjalna:Wkład/Honey. 2013 means that it has been a global account since then. Unfortunately you can't get username "Honey" because it belongs to another user. You have to choose another username. --Stryn (talk) 19:53, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
Oh apologies, I was going on information elsewhere. Could you explain the criteria for another user overriding my username? I've been happy to be Honey for a decade, and yet it seems I'm about to lose it on en,wikipedia.org and I'd rather not. Thanks.
Please have a look at Single User Login finalisation announcement/Schema announcement. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:08, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Brandmeister@global[edit]

You need to confirm that Brandmeister belongs to you. Log in for example at jawiki and write either on user or user talk page that it's yours. --Stryn (talk) 07:39, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Done at azwiki and Commons. Would suffice? Thanks. Brandmeister~enwiki (talk) 11:25, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Hmm, so global account Brandmeister does not belong to you? --Stryn (talk) 14:25, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
I hadn't global account previously until recent SUL development. I got a message saying it clashes with other accounts and will be moved: [4]. I would like to have the previous username Brandmeister across all projects. Before the SUL rollout I tried to make a unified login, but failed. Brandmeister~enwiki (talk) 15:40, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
If you're not a owner of a global account "Brandmeister", then you should choose another username. Regards, --Stryn (talk) 17:05, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

"Mannik" is already taken (see Special:CentralAuth/Mannik). You should choose another username. --Stryn (talk) 20:37, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Requests involving usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@project name .

Copyleft@en.wikipedia[edit]

Hi @Copyleft:, if you would like to usurp unattached en wiki account that can be done, so that you can use copyleft on en wiki too. Also if my understanding is correct, you want to merge Eurobas into copyleft account, it won't be possible for now because the user merge tool is still in development--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 11:21, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
@Shanmugamp7: we should be able to move out/usurp the enWP account, and move in the replacement. Just will need to get user to align passwords/passwords. We would need a confirmation of the Eurobas account to be moved and merged.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:09, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
@Eurobas, Copyleft: if you can have the Eurobas username confirm that it is to be merged, we can move this to the "pending" file for merges.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:11, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Boudewijn@global[edit]

If you hold all of the other accounts, then I am inclined to process this request. However, would you consider selecting a different name to make it easier on everyone :)? Ajraddatz (talk) 06:29, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
The other Bouwdewijn (commons, dewp) has been inactive for 8 years and was only active for 2 days. They also have less edits in total. I think we should give the global account to this Boudewijn (enwp, nlwp, enwn, enwk, nlwk). I suggest switching the global account choice (deleting the global account) and warning the other user of the coming SUL finalisation. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 07:05, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: I understand that each request adds a manual burden on a complex project, and have considered selecting another user name. I also considered the active time of the other account: as Takata points out: it was only active on two dates (less than sixty minutes, crossing from one to the next date at midnight). Thank you for your time on this. @Takata: thanks :-)
addition for clarity: I would still like to retain Boudewijn as user name :-)

Comment Comment Thought about leaving a note on the user's talk page at Commons asking them their opinion, to even see if they are around?  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:32, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
Comment Comment Hi Billinghurst, thanks for the suggestion! I did so at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Boudewijn#request_to_.22usurp.22_your_username_.2F_verzoek_om_je_gebruikersnaam_over_te_nemen 2001:982:1768:1:225:90FF:FE37:B6F8 21:43, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Comment Comment So far, the user from the commons-account has not contacted me. I do not see any activity on his part either. How long is a "nice" period to wait? Best regards, 2001:982:1768:1:225:90FF:FE37:B6F8 21:15, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
@Boudewijn~enwiki: I have moved the blocking account, please request one of your accounts to be moved into place, and then we can adapt this request to merge the others. Please ping me when you have done this.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:24, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: Thanks for your trouble. I think I misunderstood the next step. I followed the (non existing) link to user Boudewijn~enwiki on meta, and created the account I am now logged in with to write something about a request. Had second thoughts and wrote the request on my new user (user:Boudewijn) page on meta, instead of the other page. Now I come back here, I read your text again and I have no clue what I actually should have done. I read "request one of your accounts to be moved into place" as: "make sure you have a Boudewijn-account". Is that correct? How can I help to make the merge as easy as possible for you (or someone else)? Boudewijn (talk) 19:46, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Apologies if that didn't make sense to you. We need to you to confirm that each of those accounts is yours, and the best/easiest way to do that is to have you login with each account, and state that they are to be merged to the parent account. We can merge them into place into this target account when the tool is available.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:56, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah, sorry for failing to recognize that. I am underway to add verification strings to each of the user-pages. I'll ping back when I'm done. I read the merge tool is still in the making. Thanks so far! Boudewijn (talk) 21:48, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Psychedelia@global[edit]

@Psychedelia: You should request the moving the account from ruWP to this account name. I doubt that we will look to resolve poet@global, it looks problematic. To get the move done, we will need for you to login to your account there and confirm that you wish for it to be merged, and to where.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:32, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
X mark.svg stale request  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:19, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Kontos@global[edit]

@Sanyi4: You have the global account under this name. What we can look to do is to merge those pertinent accounts from Kontas. We will need for you to login to each of the relevant accounts under Kontas and identify which are to be merged. Some may be able to do soon, others will need to wait until the global unification process is further progressed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: (I did not own the global user for Kontos, if you meant that.) Now the local Kontos accounts are being renamed to Kontos~xy, many have been renamed already. I tried to use Special:GlobalRenameRequest, but that doesn't work for target accounts that already exist. -- What do I have to do to have all the remaining individual Kontos/Kontos~xy accounts renamed to Sanyi4? Where do I have to request it, if not here? How long do I have to wait? -- Sanyi4 (talk) 22:52, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
@Sanyi4: We need a list of the Kontos… accounts to be merged, where each of these accounts you have logged into and confirmed each from its user account. Once we have that list, AND following the availability of the merge tool we can look to undertake the merges.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:13, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Pikachu@global[edit]

What accounts at other projects do belong to you? Ruslik (talk) 07:36, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
None of the other "Pikachu" accounts belong to me. Enwiki only. 2605:A601:557:C201:69BF:97F9:596D:9546 17:22, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Comment Comment I don't think that this account should take precedence. Pumping up an edit account after the criteria has been made available should not be the determinator. Two years of not editing is not particularly inactive, and the counts of the other accounts of this username that are of a similar condition. I suggest that you choose another name for your account.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:34, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Had a warning been issued to me, via e-mail or talkpage, before the "too late, you're going to be renamed" message, I would've taken care of the issue then. Since I have always only dealt with Enwiki, I never saw any of the posts on meta (and, in fact, can't even log into meta) to know that the rename was imminent. The criteria being made available wasn't really all that available. When an account has been on the brink of usurpation in the past, a notice would be put on the target account's talkpage while there was still an opportunity to do something about it. With this, no notice was given until it was too late. I did what I could immediately after direct notice was given, and I am hoping that I am doing sufficient to warrant the "override on a case-by-case basis." 65.121.182.3 16:48, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
There has been much information available across and internal to wikis, eg. Wikipedia Signpost, Wikimedia Blogs, etc., and for a couple of years and it is unfortunate that you have not seen or heeded what has been available. I still see no special criteria that you have introduced that should change the basis of the current decision.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:21, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Sol@nlwikibooks[edit]

Your account here on the English Wikipedia is not eligible to have a cloak (less than 250 edits)...
If you don't own either of those accounts, I can't set you a cloak

Meest recent idd in 2012.

Anonimu~commonswiki@commons[edit]

Do your account on commons have a different e-mail/password set than your global account? Ruslik (talk) 18:15, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
@Anonimu: Please log into your Commons account and quote m:Special:PermanentLink/11986610 and then tell us that you have made the confirmation and we can do the move. Best to align passwords and email addresses while you are logged in there and making the confirmation.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:19, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Vorlage~dewiki@dewiki / Vorlage~global[edit]

Can this user still login into his Vorlage~dewiki account? Ruslik (talk) 09:07, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
I think, he could login, because his account isn’t globally locked. He is just blocked because of his own wish, because he just wanted to create this babel system. But he never wanted to be renamed to another name and be separated from his babel system idea. He is just inactive.
But just now I’ve got an idea who maybe created this user for this purpose in 2006. That user also has been engaged in this babel system then, as I’ve seen now, and as I’m seeing now, it’s very likely that he created this function account. So I will ask him what he thinks about this thing, ok? Then we should wait a bit for an answer of him, perhaps he will answer directly here. He has been active just a few days ago and also is a sysop, so perhaps he will answer. And if he doesn’t mind not being able anymore to login into this account, then there won’t be a problem with renaming, I think. The User Vorlage could edit his own talk page, so if he knows his own password, he could post something there. --Winternacht (talk) 15:22, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
By the way: In 2007, it has been the question in the Wikiversity, if the user with that name should be blocked or renamed there because of his name: „Wäre es möglich, dass du dir ein neues Benutzerkonto (anderer Name) zulegst, wir könnten dann das Konto hier sperren.“ The Wikiversity user himself answered then that he didn’t see any problem with his user name, because the few templates in his user namespace weren’t much used which now is also the case there. He also said that he assumed to be the Wikiversity as a failed project and didn’t edit anymore the project since the day after that. So I think, he didn’t want to use the account in the project anymore. The problem is that he used the account before that also for other edits and that he got the global account because of this. If he would create a new local account in the Wikipedia automatically now or in the future, then he would be blocked there because of „ungeeigneter Benutzername“, see the discussion at AAF linked above. So you can see that he will not have any possibility to edit with his global account in the de-Wikipedia. It the Wikiversity user gets the de-account, if it will be renamed back, then he won’t also have any possibility to get that (because of its own will) blocked account unblocked and edit with it there. Perhaps it will be reblocked then instead. --Winternacht (talk) 16:14, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
See also here, it had been a function account of the sysops User:J budissin and User:Schwalbe at de-Wikipedia who are both still active (J budissin also today). I will also point him to the discussions. --Winternacht (talk) 16:36, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Here the original discussion about this babel system. It has been initiated by J budissn, and Schwalbe had created the account for that purpose. They both have active (sysop) accounts and they don’t need this account to edit, therefore it had been blocked in 2006. They didn’t take part in the past discussions. Perhaps they didn’t notice this whole mess by now. But I sent them both a notice in the de-Wikipedia now, so let’s see. --Winternacht (talk) 17:06, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Similar case with User:Js~ukwiki, User:Js~ruwiki (accounts used for Javascript-scripts which used in user's monobook.js or vector.js [23])--Anatoliy (talk) 20:41, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, the user is a legal "sockpuppet" of mine and I still can login and just tried successfully. But the user rename request form does not allow me to use the old name again. --Schwalbe (talk) 20:04, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

BPK[edit]

Your BPK account still exists. Nothing happened with it. But the account PaulB on dewiki (which probably also belongs to you) was renamed to PaulB~dewiki. Ruslik (talk) 20:23, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
@BPK: If it is your account, and you wished it merged to this account we will need for you to login to the deWP account, confirm that it is here, then come back here and point us to the edit. We will then put it into the queue to be merged.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:56, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Teevati@global[edit]

Hi Teevati, the "Grove~enwiki" account has 0 edits. Combining 0 edits with the "Teevati" account would not change anything. Also we currently do not have the tools to merge accounts (all we can do is swith local accounts). All the best, Taketa (talk) 05:47, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Hi Taketa, thank You for a swift response. I didn't realise that I hadn't made any edits with "Grove" (now "Grove~enwiki) before adding "Teevati" as a global account back in the day. Regards. Teevati (talk) 06:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

KamilQue@plwiki[edit]

"Tharon" is not available. Please choose another username. --Stryn (talk) 18:51, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
He needs the usurpation of the new account because the new nick is already used. --The Polish (talk) 19:54, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
We don't usurp global accounts. He should choose a username that is available. --Stryn (talk) 19:57, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
And if he first will ask to usurp locally on enwiki the new account and then ask to merge both accounts (global and enwiki)? Is it possible? --The Polish (talk) 20:06, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
This user has made three editions (in 2006, 2009 and 2010). There is not even your hand. --KamilQue (talk) 12:12, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Username is taken, if it is ever made available, it would be available. When you have chosen an available target account, please make a request at special:GlobalRenameRequest or back here.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:50, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Salv@enwiki[edit]

"Ping" is not a valid reason to usurp any accounts. "Salv" is a global account with 5 edits on nowikinews while "Salv~enwiki" had just 2 edits (both talk page edits). --Stryn (talk) 05:12, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
"Salv" on nowikn is an account that has been used 5 days 7 years ago and never since. "Salv" on enwiki is an account that currently is of use to the active admin who owns it. What I'm saying (and what I've been saying well before this SUL unification wave came to pass) is that by every conceivable angle of common sense, I should be authorized to own the SUL because I want it an I use it. There is no reason to lock the SUL to a nowikn user who is long gone and won't see any use of it. Or are you implying that if I started using "Salv" on enwiki as an actual alt account, with more edits, you would consider the usurpation request more "valid"? That sounds quite silly, no? How would you describe a "valid reason to usurp an account"? Salvidrim! 05:17, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
There exists significant existing discussion on meta about "global usurpation", and while the currently established text states that requests are judged on a case-by-case basis by Stewards (and Global Renamers, I guess), one of the usurpation conditions that seems to have garnered the most support here is "The account has under ten edits, and the last edit is from over three years ago." This is applicable to the present situation -- 5 edits 7 years ago. I think the most recent agreement amongst meta users is that I should be allowed to request this usurp successfully. Salvidrim! 05:22, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Request unarchived, still pending a reply from the Stewards team regarding global usurp request that should be granted (less than 10 edits / older than 3 years). Salvidrim! 19:29, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
There was a reply, and it isn't going to happen. You have an account name, and you don't get someone else's just so you get it as a redirect. The number and age of the edits are not particularly pertinent. There are imperfections in having to fit into the reality of the how account names have been resolved.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
And yet the proposed "global usurpation" policy (at the least the part of it with the most support) would clearly authorize this type of usurpation. There would be literally no harm to it since whoever was behind the Salv~nowikn account is clearly long gone. I guess the only thing I can do at this point is wait until you Stewards have made the "global usurpation" policy official and request it again at that time. I understand that you would've probably liked, as many users would've, to finalze said policy before the WMF pushed ahead and rolled out the "SUL unification" process, but we have to work with what we have now. Thanks you both for your time, and we'll meet again once policy is agreed upon. :) Salvidrim! 02:46, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Actually 233 edits is pretty much... I would kindly ask you to choose another username that is available. --Stryn (talk) 16:35, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, but those edits were made a long time ago and the account is stale. And apart from the kk.wiki, the name has not ever been used in any other global wiki. I would expect that there would be a case of precedence for a user with 52,000+ edits in comparison to a stale one with 200. Mar4d (talk) 18:26, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
