The Wikimedia Foundation Social Media Team is comprised of Wikimedia Foundation staff who work in Communications (and historically Wikimedia volunteers, especially those who help with the annual fundraiser). Our mission is to create free and open channels for discussion and feedback, to promote movement news and activities, to help identify and reach out to new editors, and to recognize the good work our core community of volunteers is doing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail the team: socialmediawikimedia.org or leave a note on the talk page here.
The Wikimedia Foundation Social Media Channels
The Wikimedia Foundation Social Media team currently oversees several social media channels; see below for a list.
Additionally, there are a few other channels that are overseen by Wikimedia Foundation that are used for specific purposes and are not overseen by the Social Media Team.
Wikimedia chapters Social Media Handles
There are currently 39 Wikimedia chapters worldwide. Wikimedia chapters are independent organizations founded to support and promote the Wikimedia projects within a specified geographical region. Many of them have chosen to use social media, and a selection of their accounts is listed below. If you have suggestions for content for the feeds of individual chapters, please see their contact information at Wikimedia chapters.
Other Wikimedia movement Social Media Channels
There are a large number of other social media channels that are relevant to the Wikimedia movement. Since these aren't managed by the Wikimedia Foundation, content for them cannot be suggested here, but they are listed here so that those interested can easily follow them. These are not directly overseen by the Wikimedia Foundation and we do not control their content, but some of them include:
Various projects involved in the broader Wikimedia movement have also chosen to use their own social media channels. some of these include:
Wikipedians in Residence
A number of galleries, libraries, archives, and museums worldwide now have Wikipedians in Residence, Wikipedia editors placed in institutions aiming to facilitate collaboration between that institution and the Wikimedia community. Many Wikipedians-in-Residence choose to maintain social media channels documenting their residencies.
