Requests for global sysop permissions[edit]

Global sysop for Homeontherange 1[edit]

I was formerly Homeontherange on enwiki and also on here, and BECAUSE I CAN, heh, heh, heh, I've been a wiki-admin away from Wikimedia, y'know. --Homeontherange 1 (talk) 15:12, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I suggest you remove this mocking request, rights are not given out as candy, but only based on a basis of trust and activity. This currently looks like a joke. Considering your former (claimed) account is still currently blocked on meta as suspectedly compromised, and has not edited since 2006, your claim is doubtfull, and it does not give a reason why you should need these rights. Savhñ 15:34, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose strong oppose The immature opening comment of this request is an automatic disqualification.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:33, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Strong oppose: Definitely not required for global adminship. This user hasn't even been registered on other WMF sites or has contributed. Would also strongly think a speedy close is needed. --~ curtaintoad ~~ talk ~ 05:40, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
No early closures here at Meta, unless the nominee withdraws this request. --Glaisher [talk] 06:04, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
That may be technically true, but there's really no need to leave this open. It "almost" seems like trolling. PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:46, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose I seriously doubt that you are competent enough for this as you even got your username on the {{sr-request}} also wrong. Only 3 edits with this account (all edits here at Meta). I also agree with Savh and Jasper Deng. --Glaisher [talk] 06:04, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • strong oppose only 3 edits. --Jakob (Scream about the things I've broken) 17:37, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I can only say this about this request: no. — TBloemink talk 17:44, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Not done: requesting global sysop access without a valid rationale and without any demonstrated experience is just an inappropriate thing to do. I don't consider this a serious request in the sense that it should'nt be closed early. The 'no snowball' policy is meant to prevent possibly unfair closures, because the course of discussions on Meta-wiki might suddenly change. However, in this case, leaving the request and discussion open serves no purpose whatsoever. In my opinion, the 'no snowball' policy of Meta-wiki doesn't apply in this case. Even if it did, then we should still deviate from it to prevent further distraction caused by such ridiculous requests. It is and it should remain an unusual thing to do, but I hereby close this discussion early. Mathonius (talk) 21:17, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Requests for global editinterface permissions[edit]

Requests for global IP block exemption[edit]

Global IP block exempt for Hsarrazin[edit]

I don't understand why, being logged under my global account, the IP I use is taken into account…, thanks, --Hsarrazin (talk) 15:57, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Sounds kinda familiar to me. Obviously I'm not the only one with this problem. --YodelingCowboy (talk) 08:56, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

winkThanks! a lot --Hsarrazin (talk) 18:08, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Putnik[edit]

I use a paid VPN (it blocked as "open proxy") for some non-Wikimedia reasons, and it is very inconvenient that during these periods I do not have to edit the wikis. I am the administrator of the ru-WP and Commons, the former check-user of ru-WP and OTRS agent, so I do not plan to abuse this flag. — putnik 21:00, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

If it is not an open proxy, it should probably be unblocked. Ruslik (talk) 10:54, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
IP block changed, no more need for exempt flag. Thanks. — putnik 15:17, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
 Not done then. --MF-W 19:03, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for YodelingCowboy[edit]

I have an account on Commons:[1]. As you can see on my list of uploads, I have never uploaded any copyrighted files (all soundfiles are in the public domain), and there has never been any problem with me on any wiki. So I'm asking you to lift the block on my account.I live in an authoritarian staate, so I need to use an open proxy. I don't want them to know who I am and what I do on the internet. Thank you. --YodelingCowboy (talk) 10:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Comment Comment: see also his original unblock request on my user talk. Trijnsteltalk 12:05, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
There is neither a block nor a lock on this account. If you operating on a blocked IP, then you should inquire directly to Commons for a local IPBE. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:09, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, he claims he can't edit because of this global block: Special:GlobalBlockList/74.63.73.130 (see here). Trijnsteltalk 12:21, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
I just tried to edit one of my uploads, unfortunately to no avail. The block is still on. I am logged in as "YodelingCowboy" and I get exactly the same message as posted on Trijnstel's user talk. What I don't get is why the system checks the IP when I'm logged in. Isn't there a way to bypass this check for registered users? I guess that would solve the problem. --YodelingCowboy (talk) 15:47, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I don't mean to rush anyone, but I've been waiting for almost an entire month now. User:Hsarrazin had exactly the same problem and he was unblocked within five days. No offense, but the term "kafkaesque" comes to mind. So I would really appreciate it, if someone could PLEASE make a decision and unblock me or at least tell me why I won't be unblocked. Sincerely, --YodelingCowboy (talk) 10:01, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

I think a local exemption on Commons will be sufficient. Ruslik (talk) 18:36, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
You guys are kidding me, aren't you. I just tried to request a local exemption at COM:AN/P, but I couldn't even add a topic to the page. All I got was this message: "You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason: Your IP address has been blocked on all wikis. The block was made by Trijnstel (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Open proxy. Start of block: 21:05, 31 October 2012 Expiry of block: 21:05, 31 October 2014 Your current IP address is 74.63.73.84. Please include all above details in any queries you make. If you believe you were blocked by mistake, you can find additional information and instructions in the No open proxies global policy. Otherwise, to discuss the block please post a request for review on Meta-Wiki." --YodelingCowboy (talk) 09:44, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
I posted a request at commons:Commons:AN/P#User:YodelingCowboy. Ruslik (talk) 19:18, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Mlpearc[edit]

I am an Admin at WP:ACC and have been getting permission errors when creating new accounts, error 1 and a second error when using Twinkle. I was advised to request IPBE here. thanks, --

Other requests[edit]

API high limits requestor for Irclogbot[edit]

As some of you might know I'm the maintainer of wRaelbots, which, basically, fetch abuselogs on the IRC. In order to access the APIs it uses a wiki account, namely Irclogbot. It is currently checking for logs each 3 second but I'd like to let it check 3 times faster but that means getting a faster API access. That bot, is, ofc, supposed to never edit anywhere. --Vituzzu (talk) 20:13, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Support, but with question: is it really easier to keep checking API than to go on irc://irc.wikimedia.org and listen for AbuseLog entries? I actually do not know if abuselogs show up there, but I believe it is possible. PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:19, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
Abuse log (or rather abuse filter hits) may appear on IRC feed as long as it is configured to happen, which is by default false and currently only 5 wikis have it on.
Danny B. 18:42, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Why not enable it for all wikis? Can this be done with RSS instead? Why is 3 seconds too slow? PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:27, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Why is it needed to fetch the abuselogs every second? --MF-W 18:46, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Where is this channel? --Rschen7754 01:05, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Depends on the wiki. For example, if it is Dutch Wikipedia, the channel is #nl.wikipedia--Glaisher [talk] 08:17, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
@Vituzzu: Care to answer any questions? PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:29, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
The bot is currently in #cvn-commons, #wikipedia-es-abusos, #wikipedia-it-vandalism, #cvn-wp-nl and #wikipedia-nl-vandalism (plus another private channel I don't know how much public is it). I need to speed it up since I'm currently having some RTT trouble towards Amsterdam: lag of my bot is ~ 2*RTT + refresh time + lag to freenode. The only term I can reduce with ease is the second one, I already got a better lag to freenode using a fixed server rather than usual RR. I can ask for bot flag on commons, nl.wiki and es.wiki but it would be an overkill since I don't need any writing access moreover a global group will allow me to scale it better. --Vituzzu (talk) 17:22, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
