  • Usurpation of accounts
  • Deletion of global accounts
Crosswiki requests
MetaWiki requests

Before posting here[edit]

Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request, unless you are requesting a completely global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname@xxproject ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = xx.project
 |Oldname    =
 |Newname    =
 |confirmation = [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]<!--Local request link-->
 |reason     = (your remarks here) ~~~~

For example:

=== Example@jawiki ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = ja.wikipedia
 |Oldname    = Example
 |Newname    = Foo
 |confirmation = []
 |reason     = (your remarks here) ~~~~

For global rename requests:

=== Example@global ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = global
 |Oldname    = Example
 |Newname    = Foo
 |confirmation = []
 |reason     = (your remarks here) ~~~~

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.

For changing your username on several wikis: If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like. If you wish to be renamed on all wikis, and there is no existing local or global account at the new name, you can simply put "global", and you will be globally renamed.

Making a request for an account that is not yours[edit]

If you want to have an account renamed because its name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent to stewards(at)

SUL account deletions[edit]

Please specify the account to be deleted, e.g. by linking to the Special:CentralAuth page for it, and the reason for it.

Please add new requests at the end of the page. Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects please.

  1. I assume you want a global rename (i.e. for all of your accounts).
    Yes. FilipMyslowski (talk) 17:13, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
  2. Filipbb already exists on Commons. Does that account belong to you? Otherwise, please inform him first that you want to take over his name. --MF-W 14:44, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
    Done - [1]. FilipMyslowski (talk) 17:13, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

You will need to finish the migration of the renaming accounts. Matanya (talk) 08:51, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
What I was told is that local bureaucrats would lose this ability on 2014-09-15, so meta would handle the remaining after the deadline (see the answer I got at my previous request as linked above). Also a project on which I created an account does not have bureaucrats (wikisource, account created before there was localisations).Cæruleum (talk) 09:10, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
You have duplicate accounts for meta for example, you will need to wait until mergeuser is deployed for us to be able to solve such conflicts. Matanya (talk) 15:40, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Done on eswiki, oldWS, fr.b, fr.s, On ptwiki I renamed the existing attached Cæruleum account away, since it had 0 edits, and renamed Jborme to it. On qualitywiki I got an error message, surely because the wiki is closed. Apart from that, Jborme remains only on Meta now, where Cæruleum has edits as well. Do you want the existing Cæruleum (with 3 edits) to be renamed away in favour of the other account? --MF-W 15:47, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

you will need to solve locally on:

  5. dewikinews
  6. enwikibooks
  7. enwiktionary

Local renames are no longer possible by local users as per gerrit:160158. Thus, this is to be done by stewards. Vogone (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi User:Chess. So you want your 123chess456 accounts on commons, simplewiki, simplewikt and wikidata to be renamed to "Chess"? --MF-W 15:50, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, I've usurped on enwiki, so please change all of my accounts that you are able to to "Chess". I will have to make an usurp request on every individual wiki? Chess (talk) 20:03, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
There is not yet "global usurpation policy", so I guess you will have to request usurpation locally for now and the bureaucrats will have to ask Stewards to fulfill those local requests. –xeno 20:36, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Per Xeno above, we can't start ignoring local usurpation guidelines, asking local bureaucrats for comment might indeed be the best solution, though we also have to keep in mind that this is atransitional period to SUL finalisation where all these accounts will be forcibly renamed. Done on - as a local bureaucrat - and on enwikibooks and enwiktionary per previous precedents. Savhñ 20:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC) And some more (kawikibooks, trwikibooks, trwikiquote, mediawikiwiki, jawiki) based on previous precedents. Savhñ 21:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Two issues should be separated here: 1.) The renaming of the remaining 123chess456 accounts who have edits to the new name; 2.) The renaming ("usurpation") of the unattached Chess accounts.
In order to solve 1.), I have just done the following renames: (so please visit Special:MergeAccount)
Chess@commons->Chess (self-usurped)@commons
Chess@wikidata->Chess (self-usurped)@wikidata
The only remaining 123chess456'es with edits are on Meta and enwiki. That is obviously unsolvable at the moment, maybe you will want to request a merge when that function exists. --MF-W 21:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Zdzislaw@multiple projects[edit]

  • I also notified inactive enwiki user. Should usurp there too. –xeno 20:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Should I notify inactive plwiki Zdzislaw user? or it will be done by you or other Steward? Zdzislaw (talk) 21:12, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Sorry but I don't know the pl procedure. Try pl:WP:USURP for guidance. –xeno 03:58, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
xeno - to take over inactive account of enwiki user Zdzislaw too (to my SUL), I should submit a new request or extend the current one? Zdzislaw (talk) 13:29, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
This request meets enwiki usurp guidelines so a steward can process it without delay. –xeno 14:56, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Done. --MF-W 17:46, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, Zdzislaw (talk) 18:15, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Done. You have been globally renamed to George.G. Savhñ 23:31, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you.--George.G (talk) 08:44, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Please rename George-09Bot to George.G.Bot.--George.G (talk) 21:53, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately no, we cannot usurp an account with over 7000 edits. I don't consider Ðavide to be appropiate either, considering the simmilarity to Davide and the confusion that might arise due to the special character used. Savhñ 23:35, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
This was exactly the reason for which I chose Ðavide; Ð is not a special character in a lot of country and I can not see problems of misunderstanding if the other user is inactive.. Anyway does exist limits over which a name can not be usurped? I am finishing the alternative solutions! --Martellodifiume (talk) 00:13, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Savh, because of language differences (German umlauts, Chinese symbols, etc.) and the inherently low number of short usernames, we've generally entertained these kinds of variants so long as the user agrees not to impersonate the other user. What's your opinion? MBisanz talk 01:58, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Agree with the special symbols - which can be language dependant indeed - but the Ð is not used at all in Italian, and might therefore lead to confusion on I'd prefer to have an 'crat giving his view. Savhñ 06:24, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
I agree but the same page you linked says that is used in Venetian (that is my native language in addition to Italian), this is the reason I thought about it (I'm Ðavide in FB too). Let me know! :) --Martellodifiume (talk) 11:56, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
The Đ instead of D is explicitly listed on mw:Extension:AntiSpoof as a name variation that will be prevented from creating. It would be unappropriate to rename to a name which cannot be registered (see also bugzilla:70380). --MF-W 15:54, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Good to know, although with this policy we'll have user name longer and longer. BTW what about "Gogol"? Should not be so problematic as the previous one --Martellodifiume (talk) 22:19, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
"There are unattached accounts using the requested username." –xeno 01:52, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Nick UA@itwiki[edit]

Done, renamed locally to NickK. You should create a global account though, because otherwise your accounts could be automatically renamed with SUL finalisation. Access Special:MergeAccount to do so. Savhñ 06:46, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Done, per the ticket. Savhñ 10:58, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

please login with ChemBioScripting and confirm that it is yours, so I'll usurp it for you. Amir (talk) 15:20, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done You already did. Amir (talk) 15:28, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

DennyTemp@multiple (2)[edit]

Reason: SUL finalisation. I got told last week to come back this week, as then Stewards would have gotten local usurpation rights. These are the last two accounts I need to usurp to finally have SUL! (Been trying for a while). Thanks! --denny (talk) 15:02, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Both Yes check.svg Done. You can now finally finish your global account. Trijnsteltalk 15:35, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Wohooo!! Thank you! One step closer to world domination... --denny (talk) 15:48, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

The new username is already taken on a wiki. Unfortunately, sulinfo doesn't work properly but you can see e.g. here. Please choose an empty username. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:31, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
