I noticed the half-sentence «much like the German Wikipedia recently did in a similar situation», and tried to find more info about this incident in the German Wikipedia, to no avail (my poor knowledge of German does not help). Sorry I don't know whether to reply in French or English but then bizarre is the same in both....

Am I to beleive its somehow illegal to quote Voltaire in French but not in English? Or is it more complicated? Can we quote Voltaire in French if the original quote was in English and in English if the original quote was in French? If the quote was also published in both languages by Voltaire himself does that exclude one or both and how about quotes he also published in Italian?

Five years later, the link is still broken. I'm guessing that the message to which it is supposed to refer is probably "Redémarrage du Wikiquote Francophone / French Wikiquote Relaunch", from J.-B.
