Talk:Don't delete redirects

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Foreign[edit]

Nicely put, but you might want to add an extra point. ON EN wiki we have lots of redirects from non English words, some people consider that as such they don't belong on EN wiki. Others including myself are mindful that a large proportion of our users are not English and therefore probably need more help using EN wiki than others do. Of course a more logical process would be to change such redirects to soft redirects to the article in the other language wiki..... I don't know if this is a general problem, my suspicion is that it could be more widespread on EN wiki than elsewhere. WereSpielChequers 14:15, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Namespace[edit]

Why isn't this in main namespace? Many users share this view and it's a quite important topic. Nemo 00:30, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here is some discussion that might be of interest:

Translation[edit]

How to localize this page using the mw:Help:Extension:Translate instead of subpages? --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 02:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If nobody is against this, I would like to adopt the Translate extension and then manually migrate the strings. Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 07:08, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Another exception[edit]

When I create a page (e.g. in the template namespace) with a typo, or I upload a file with a wrong name, and I move it a few seconds later to correct my error, always a useless redirect remains (because I do not have the authority to untick the box "Leave a redirect behind:" ). IMHO in this situation the deletion of the useless redirect is better than to leave it; at least it should be in my decision whether I prefer to get rid of that useless relict of an error. sarang사랑 11:29, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now I got the authority to avoid it -- sarang사랑 16:58, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brion[edit]

Will Brion really desysop you if you remove redirects? If this is considered as some sort of joke, I personally don't find it funny. 4nn1l2 (talk) 22:07, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
