Request from WMF to make changes to the Q1 report[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation would like to update our FDC progress report to make it a cumulative report that incorporates Q1 and Q2 of the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The current report now centers on Q3 of the fiscal year, or Q1 of the calendar year. We would like to update both the narrative outline and the financial outline of our FDC progress report. Hi JonathanCinSF, please go ahead with the changes outlined above. KLove (WMF) (talk) 17:02, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Link to staff summary[edit]

We have published a staff summary of all 2012-2013 Round 1 Q1 reports here: FDC portal/Proposals/2012-2013 round1/Staff summary/Progress report form/Q1. We ask each entity to also review our general comments there. All the best, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:59, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation[edit]

Thank you for taking the time to provide a comprehensive cumulative report. We are grateful for the details included in this report.

  • We note 3.2 billion page views on the mobile site. Congratulations on this accomplishment!
  • We were pleased to read about the research on the Global Education Program’s impact on improving article quality in the US and Canada.

Cheers, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:59, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We would like to learn more[edit]

  • We had a difficult time analyzing Table 3 in the Q1-Q3 report. For the third column (“budgeted”), WMF should have included the budget for the 3rd quarter, but this number should be the amount budgeted for the entire fiscal year (Q1-Q4).
  • In addition, we ask that you share expenditures by program as listed in the FDC proposal form (see Table 9). We understand that the concept of core and non-core has been abandoned, but we ask that you continue to report on progress by program and staff expenditures.
  • Based on the published reports, we see significant underspends in Engineering and Grantmaking, with all other categories of spending slightly under plan. Since the spend rate for quarters 1-3 is reported at 60%, do you anticipate a significant underspend with a return of unused funds to the reserve?

Many thanks, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:59, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for future reports[edit]

We note the struggles to engage workshop participants (in India, in the example in the report) and encourage WMF to share progress in this area in future reports. Thank you, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:59, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
