Talk:Fundraising 2008

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

For crying out loud, the whole thing is almost half over and no comments here. Good job!

That's because there are comments everywhere else... on the mailing lists, on the core messages talk pages, etc. :) Cbrown1023 talk 23:10, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Increase goal?[edit]

I propose an increase in the goal, in the amount of the median opinion of those with authority to increase the goal. No Numbers in this Username 22:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers different[edit]

Why does the number overlaid on the banner's progress bar not match http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionStatistics ?

The banner's progress bar includes the large donations/gifts received this fiscal year so far. The ContributionStatistics page does not (as far as I know). Cbrown1023 talk 01:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This suggests that anonymous contributions are excluded from the latter -- that seems odd. No Numbers in this Username 00:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're misunderstanding his post. It filters out information like name, not amount. Cbrown1023 talk 01:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Progress bar now out of sync with itself[edit]

Apparently the large number of contributions on December 23rd (6,823 for $229,293.59) and 24th (8,186 for $283,859.98) have pushed the total to $4.47 million as I write this, but the progress bar is still colored just past the half-way mark, looking to be about only 75% as long as it should be. Given that there are seven tick-marks with half a division on each of the ends, it's hard to say exactly where it should be. (Nine segments totaling eight tick marks in length for $6 million? I sense a graphic designer without much of a math background.) No Numbers in this Username 02:31, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation suggestion[edit]

I don't know where to put this, so I'm hoping someone watching this talk page can help. The Italian comment, "IL MONDO SENZA WIKIPEDIA NON SAREBBE LO STESSO" by Ferdinando Antinoro is currently translated "The world without Wikipedia is not the same." It is better translated "The world would not be the same without Wikipedia."--chaser - t 20:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tax deductabilitiy - UK[edit]

The current situation on UK tax deductability is:

Wiki UK Ltd has applied to be approved as a Wikimedia chapter; chapcom has supported the application and WMF is due to decide during their meeting 9-11 January; we have also applied to the UK Tax authorities to approve tax deductability and they are expected to respond around mid January.

If/when approved, Wikimedia UK will be able to reclaim income tax paid on any donations subject to the appropriate decalarion being made; we will also be able to reclaim tax on donations paid prior to the date of approval.

Would it would be helpful to include this information on this page? If/when it happens (it would probably end up being after the Fundraiser), we'll poke the Fundteam and ask to add it to wmf:Deductibility of donations. A bigger update will be needed of that page soon, anyway, so this is a good start. Cbrown1023 talk

Goal![edit]

Congratulations on making the goal with three hours to spare in 2008, in San Francisco anyway. Here's my new proposal: All funds collected in excess of the goal should be held in reserve to pay for MySQL consultants and hardware necessary to get a full dump out of the English Wikipedia, which last worked in October, 2006. After the dump succeeds, any remaining excess funds should revert to the general account. No Numbers in this Username 05:18, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
