Meetups in the north[edit]

I would love to come to a session but you don't go any further north than Manchester. Why don't you go to Leeds, Bradford or Huddersfield. As long as they were held in the afternoon I would be love to attend. If you want me to arrange such an event please let me know but be aware that I've never done this kind of thing before so I would appreciate some advice on how to go about it, e.g., who to contact in the first instance. A meetup in London is held on the second Sunday of every month due to high demand. Those in other places have not always been of great success due to a lack of interest in those areas. There is no formal organization of Wikimedia meetups, nor is there a central organizer - anyone is free to arrange one by creating a page, suggesting a location, and finding out if other editors are interested. The use of user categories and WikiProjects can be useful in finding out if there are active editors in the area - in the example of London these being w:Category:Wikipedians in London and w:Wikipedia:WikiProject London.
