Moving the date[edit]

As this clashes with the GLAM-WIKI_2013 should we move to a different date, or try to integrate this into the GLAM wiki weekend? The previous Sunday would be four weeks since the previous meetup. WereSpielChequers (talk) 18:35, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The GLAM-Wiki hackathon will be going on on the Sunday, which complicates matters - it will no doubt be of interest to some Penderel's attendees, but probably not all. A temporary move to the weekend before might be worthwhile. Andrew Gray (talk) 12:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Argh. First London meetup for which I'd be in town for a year, and you're talking about moving it! ;-( James F. (talk) 17:25, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's unfortunate. I don't have a strong opinion on moving - in most circumstances I would advise against moving the date, as previous attempts to do have caused significant upset. However, if a lot of people will be missing, moving it out of the way would be prudent. I'm not particularly interested in GLAM, so I prefer the events be kept apart. CT Cooper · talk 12:26, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Could we move the venue closer to the GLAM wiki event? If so this could be the thing people go to afterwards. WereSpielChequers (talk) 14:58, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
King's Cross to Penderel's Oak not close enough? Walkit!!Gordo (talk) 13:00, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is a perfectly OK distance for one or two people. But if we have a whole group of people at the end of the GLAM conference then no they are unlikely to walk that far. WereSpielChequers (talk) 22:03, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I think it would make sense to use one of the pubs across the road. I don't know about their wifi, but otherwise they are ok. Otherwise it would be a missed opportunity to introduce new faces to the meetup. Johnbod (talk) 07:15, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal[edit]

Please see Hackathon, which is happening at the same time up the road (see also The Humanities And Technology Camp). I propose that the meetup is merged with this event. Leutha (talk) 00:22, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How many people have signed up to Hackathon or THAT CAMP? Gordo (talk) 21:20, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You me and three others on the Hackathon Wiki, as for The Humanities And Technology Camp), well the information is not so readily available. (I am not sure why there are two ways to say you're coming?)Leutha (talk) 13:32, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And me, & I'm sure others. Johnbod (talk) 07:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would prefer that this meetup carry on as normal, with the other event running in parallel, as they are very different events and we seem to have enough participants to make it worth while. Those going to THATCamp/Hackathon are welcome to turn-up after the event is over. CT Cooper · talk 12:56, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the timing, since the London Wikimeet takes place from 1pm onwards, and the Hackathon goes on all day? Gordo (talk) 07:49, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The current sign-up list suggests there will be enough attendees for a 1 pm start. The meetup usually carries on right into the evening, so those going to these events can come afterwards, and this will be even easier if the pub is changed to one nearby. CT Cooper · talk 10:48, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can we move this to the Euston Flyer opposite the British Library? That is the designated pub for the GLAMwiki event. WereSpielChequers (talk) 05:22, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Bit late to change? Gordo (talk) 07:22, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like the look of the Euston Flyer and maybe we should try a general London meetup there at some point in the future - some asked for a trial at a non-wetherspoons, and this would meet that demand. However, I agree with Gordo - it is too late to make the change. Some don't check the meetup page very often and changing the location with a less than a week to go is likely to cause problems. CT Cooper · talk 22:02, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Northern line planned partial closure[edit]

For those coming from Waterloo and that area, please note that the Northern Line will be partially closed on Sunday 14th. I myself will have to take a slightly different route from normal. CT Cooper · talk 13:18, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April, no service between Camden Town and Charing Cross Gordo (talk) 07:50, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Waterloo to Holborn is a short walk or the 512 bus. Gordo (talk) 07:52, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer the Underground over buses, but it is a far shorter walking distance than I thought. I will consider walking it. CT Cooper · talk 10:47, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pubs[edit]

Some suggestions for a pub (with food) in the area near the British Library

I would not object to changing the pub to make it more convenient to those attending the events - food and drinks is essential; I could live without wifi. However, the 1 pm start should remain as long as there is demand from those not attending the events. As I alluded to above, the meetup can continue to as late as the attendees like so those going to the events can still come along after they have finished. On another point, I would suggest that a decision be made around a week before to avoid any confusion or needless drama. CT Cooper · talk 10:55, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The meetup is less than a week away now, so I cannot now recommend moving pubs. The Penderel's Oak Pub is a mile walk from the other event which is not ideal but it isn't impossible either - and failing that there is the tube. Walking it should take around 20-30 minutes and at 5 pm the meetup is usually still going strong. CT Cooper · talk 18:16, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time is an illusion[edit]

The Hackathon is on Sunday 14th April; 11:30-16.30 and the Wikimeet is from 13:00 onwards (no end time). Gordo (talk) 11:10, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lunchtime doubly so! Leutha (talk) 20:55, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
