Name[edit]

The region seems too wide to me. Can we call ourselves, Georgia Wikimedians or North Georgia Wikimedians? Ganeshk (talk) 02:30, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The impression I got was that because no other parts of the region seem to be spontaneously forming groups, we want a funded group to cover a larger area to help spark some new local groups. Like, we would be able to contact student groups at Clemson, near where I live now, and give them some money for pizza if they host a meeting. Having a meta group already set up that can provide that support can minimize the entry barriers for starting more small groups across the region. That's my understanding, at least. I am hoping the user group will be a first step towards becoming a chapter. Keeping it small will give us an option to do that in the future. Ganeshk (talk)
I think it's a useful thing to have a somewhat open area centered on Atlanta, which gives more flexibility for the future. And actually, the current Affiliations Committee policy favors USA regional chapters that are multi-state or at least rather large (maybe California or Texas), so as to be relatively comparable to chapters in other countries that are usually just one-per-nation (ie, having 50 USA state chapters would be seen as giving too much dominance to Americans).--Pharos (talk) 22:54, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for the clarification. I am good to move forward as it stands. Ganeshk (talk)

Piemonte[edit]

w:Piedmont agrees in considering Piemonte (in Italy) the main meaning of this word. Isn't there a less ambiguous alternative? --Nemo 20:47, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unofficial DragonCon Meetup?[edit]

Howdy all. I've been at DragonCon this weekend in Atlanta (madness but great fun). en:User:Elonka, I'm told, is hosting a Wikipedia Q & A panel for those in attendance on Monday at 2:30pm in the Hilton (Room 201). I'm not sure if any other 'pedians are at DragonCon, but I thought it might be fun for anyone who is there to meet up at that panel. Hopefully I'll meet some of y'all.
