Talk:List of LGBTQIA Wikimedians

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
(Redirected from Talk:Queer Wikimedians)

You are so numerous here, that I nearly feel jalous :-) C'est dire ! Une WikiWoman qui n'a jamais franchi le pas, bien qu'elle y ait pensé (ce qui selon notre article ne l'y classe pas :-)))) Merci Vincent.

You're welcome! Vincent Ramos 22:57, 22 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Does it bother anyone else that there are people who've placed themselves on this list only to say, "I'm not gay I just like lesbians"?67.1.69.32

Yes, absolutely! But I don't want to feed the trolls by paying them any attention... -- BCorr ¤ Брайен 20:13, 23 Oct 2003 (UTC)
no, it does not bother me :-)
Well, I decided to look at the user page and contributions of the person in question and they made about 50 edits to Wikipedia and 40 here in December 2002 and January 2003 and then that's it: Jizzbug (I'm not really gay, per se; I just wouldn't have minded at all being born a lesbian.)} -- So would anyone mind if I removed them? Thanks, BCorr ¤ Брайен 16:52, 27 Oct 2003 (UTC)
If you really feel bothered by them Brian, please do so.

I'm moving this page back because a number of pages on other wikipedias link here, and there should at least be a good deal of discussion before a move like this. -- Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 00:02, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I for one definitely find it offensive, and I'm sure others do as well. Do we have a List of Wikipedians who are Niggers, or List of Wikipedians who are Fucking Fags? Some people may not be offended by the term "queer", but many people are, whereas nobody that I'm aware of is offended by "glbt". - Node 00:02, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Also, one might note inline comments by users about how the term offends them or how they dislike it. - Node.
You may like to notice Mav's comment has changed recently - he now gives a fairly good explanation of his attitude. - Mark Ryan 05:03, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't referring just to Mav, though. Also, Mav still says that he prefers other terms to "queer". Also, the term GLBT is used on the page already.

I'll just add that I consider the initialism "GLBT" inappropriate because it is insufficiently broad. The great thing about "queer" is that it's so generic, whereas "GLBT" keeps having letters added to it when people realise that one is missing. (The longest that I've seen in RL is "LGBTQQI" = «lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning, intersex», although I would regard "queer" alone as covering all of these, with the possible exception of «questioning».) I don't want to insist on "queer", if some people find it offensive. But "GLBT" has its own problems. -- Toby Bartels 20:14, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Wow, I'm kinda surprised by how many people here object to "queer." Heh, probably just my ageism at play, what with my extreme fortune of not being able to remember a time when that was used only as a pejorative rather than self-applied term. Anyway, Hello all! •63.237.83.160 12:41, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

This page seems seldom used, but I wonder if it couldn't be put to some utility improving wikipedia. I've noticed there are several wiki users who continually, relentlessly insert POV anti-gay slants into articles under the guise of being NPOV by "presenting both sides of the argument" (always a humorously desperate argument IMHO). Perhaps this forum might be used to "keep an eye" on certain habitual abusers? User Ed Poor for instance, I've found needs constant monitoring.... --66.66.34.231 06:27, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I noticed my name was removed from the list. I've created an account at meta just to add it back on. TheCustomOfLife 00:43, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hm, it's there now. I refreshed and everything and it still wasn't there. :-/ TheCustomOfLife 00:44, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Would people object to my removing the link to Kinky Wikipedians? It seems to me that it plays into stereotypes about queer=BDSM and fetishism, and I don't feel that it is any more relevant here than on the List of WikiWomen. Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 13:48, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Why did you remove the link to Kinky Wikipedians ??????????
Dlloyd 06:21, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Hello Dlloyd. It seems to me that it plays into stereotypes about queer=BDSM and fetishism, and I don't feel that it is any more relevant here than on the List of WikiWomen. And no one else objected to the removal for almost two months. I'm going to remove it now. Before you repost it -- especially because you aren't on this list of us self-identified queer Wikipedians -- can you explain why you feel it's important and wait for some responses before taking any action?
Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 20:19, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I had set up a new category on WIkipedia yesterday— Category:Gay travel destinations— which had sparked a bit of discussion and eventually listing on Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. It would be nice to be certain that there is adequate queer discussion on this subject. Please consider adding to the discussion. Best regards. SFDan 07:09, 29 Feb 2005 (UTC)

LGBT message board[edit]

I hope you have all seen the recently created LGBT notice board. If not please take a look. -- SamuelWantman 06:41, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

BTW, I'm old enough (48) that the word queer still makes me break out in a cold sweat. I can't quite stomach the idea of my name listed under the heading "queer" but I have no problem telling anyone that I am gay. -- SamuelWantman 06:53, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Help! (Knock, knock)[edit]

Hi,

on the content page, I read:

"Note: you can also add your Wikipedia user page to the Gay Wikipedians category, which is done automatically if you add the Template:User gay userbox to your user page."

What is this userbox?

How do I add it (which steps, what to be copied into where, click on ...?) - no clue.

Oh, I'm sure there's a FAQ list or so - but how to find, and where in it are the hints I need?

Sorry, but the description could be more helpful than bluntly saying "add the ### userbox". Not everyone's a geek.

Cheers, Joe

P.S. Even signing this was not a consciously planned and taken step, but rather trial and error, like a blind flight through thick fog. And I have no idea how to change the time added - actually, here (in Vienna) it's 2 hours later. Poor usability for such a big and relevant project.

Hi Joe, to add that userbox to your user page, edit w:User:Joeditt, and add "{{User:UBX/gay}}".
The date recorded when you sign a comment is in w:Greenwich Mean Time. Cheers, John Vandenberg 23:39, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed page move[edit]

Hi I propose that Queer Wikimedians and its respective talk page be moved to LGBT Wikimedians as that name is more neutral and provides equal and fair representation of members of the LGBT community. —Ancient Apparition 08:16, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,I by name Hamxo from Hausa Wikipedia user group I will like to request for your endorsement on our project proposal https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Idris_sanusi/wiki_loves_LGBT_community.Thanks as you support 🙏🏻
