In the 2010 elections, a new process for closing confirmation discussions was put in place. For a discussion about other proposed changes to the election process, and a clarification of the new process from 2010, see talk:stewards. SJ+ 22:30, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

proposed changes [edit]

A less detailed change is proposed on talk:stewards.

Currently stewards says
Stewards are elected roughly annually by the global Wikimedia community, and appointed from the elected candidates by the Board of Trustees. The number of stewards is not limited by policies. Candidates must have a support/oppose ratio of at least 80% with at least 30 supporting users. Current stewards are confirmed during each election. Stewards are subject to the steward policies; further documentation may be found in the steward handbook.

This year stewards implemented a clear process for closing the confirmation discussions, and now that the election process has become strictly up or down, the Board expressed an interest in delegating approval of the election results to the community.

Proposed changes
Stewards are elected roughly annually by the global Wikimedia community. Their total number is not limited. Elections are organized by existing stewards and the Volunteer Coordinator, and run for roughly three weeks. Successful candidates must have a support/oppose ratio of at least 80% more with at least 30 supporting editors.
Current stewards are also confirmed during the elections through an open call for community feedback and commentary followed by discussion and consensus-building among the stewards. Three stewards who receive few or no objections during confirmation form an election team to approve the results of the election. They are joined by two newly elected stewards who received few objections. These five then close the confirmations, after allowing time for new stewards to participate in the discussion.

Merger proposal [edit]

This page needs to be merged into the page Stewards/Elections. It's a duplication of this page but there may be some differences between the lists (such as Stewards/elections 2004 being listed here but not on the other page). (Sorry, forgot to sign): Set theorist (talk) 09:42, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
