I would like to know how WMF staffs prefer to be pronounced their names, because, in Japanese texts where roman alphabet is not used, foreign words (many of them are proper nouns) should be written in Katakana reflecting the original pronounciation as far as possible.
So, I would like to know,
- whether we may pronounce these names as American English; and
- whether my pronunciation is correct.

労作ありがとうございます。 Cary は「キャリー」(eg. マライア・キャリー)か「ケアリー」か悩ましいところですね。細かいことですがTimはオージーなのでどちらかというと British のほうが近いのではないかと思います。Kul さんは「クル」または「クール」ではないでしょうか。Cool と同じ音、と説明されてますので。Mark はオランダ人です。なのでシュワーにする必要ないのじゃないかな。とはいえあとで foundation-l かどこかに流して本人にチェックしてもらうほうが早いような気はしますね。というわけで購読されているのでしたらお願いします。そうでなければ私のほうであとでみなさんに声をかけておきます。--Aphaia 13:57, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Foundation-l は購読していますが、携帯でつまみ読みしているだけなので、よろしければ声をかけていただけますでしょうか（もしかして、すでにしていただいのでしょうか）。
- 日本語は（対中国語を除き）翻字ではなく音写で単語を取り入れるので、読みが重要だと理解しています（中国語や朝鮮語でも事情は類似と思います）。Michelをマイケルともミシェルとも読んであまり気にしない翻字文化の欧米の方には理解されにくいかもしれませんが、音写に非常に手間がかかると（原綴のまま組む専門誌などはともかく）報道記事としても採用されにくくなりそうです。--NJT 14:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

- Basically yes, it was planned that they would leave though. See this post for more information, specifically:
The St Petersburg office will shut down Thursday, January 31, and at that point, we will say goodbye to Barbara Brown (office manager), Sandy Ordonez (head of communications) and Vishal Patel (business development). Our accountant Oleta McHenry will be with us until the end of March, and Rob Halsell will remain as server tech out of Tampa. I want to convey the organization's deep gratitude to the entire staff who worked for us in St. Petersburg: Barbara, Sandy, Vishal, Oleta, Rob, Cary and Brion. It was not an easy year: thank you for sticking it out. We owe you, and we know it :-)

[edit] Meaning of "working out of a office"
Hi, I trying to translate this page to German, but I cannot understand the meaning of "working out of somewhere" at the first sentence. Is it, that you work together somewhere (here: in the office) or that you work outside this place, or is there a different meaning. The first two cases don't convince me.
