Issues[edit]

I think holding this in June is not possible, because the rest of the world has their holidays in July-August. I thought at least universities in Sing have their summer vacations in July, so why not have the conference then?

Also, what venues are you considering? How many people are expected to attend? Jpatokal 04:06, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

University break is from Mid May to Mid August. I don't know about non-university. Venue in National University would be great, there's wifi connectivity. However, accommodation would be a problem. Or Singapore Management University, which located in downtown, have easy access to rapid transit and hotels. Chaerani 06:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Add NTU to the list, they would seem to fit the bill nicely. National Library would be great, but it's just too small to cater for 500 people in 5-6 different tracks. Jpatokal 05:25, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Nat Lib and SMU (and raffles / suntec, if possible) can be combined as "one venue" since both are in quite close proximity to one another. This way, there would be adequate room and it is in downtown too. Sim Lim Square could be one of the techie shopping tour. Chaerani 07:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd very strongly advise against this, it's a huge hassle for everybody to split the conference between multiple places. Jpatokal 10:20, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Should we have it at Singapore Expo or Suntec City? Nice places, huge, but Expo is in the middle of nowhere, frankly speaking. Suntec's fees may cost a bomb, Raffles City may be good, as it is very centralised, MRT below, hotels nearby, shopping downstairs, food widely available (budget to high range). Once again, fees are too costly. We also need to get a license to do host such an event, need someone above 21 , I think. --Terence Ong 04:41, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then we can have it from 29 June to 2 July 2007, as most school going Wikimedians are having the Youth Day holidays. I'm not sure about polytechnics and local universities. --Terence Ong 04:43, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For NUS students this date is certainly not a problem. Chaerani 07:18, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can one of you do the sales enquiry for Suntec and Raffles City, see how much are they charging us. No harm asking, yeah? --Terence Ong 04:47, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've just mailed Suntec and will give Raffles City a ring tomorrow. Jpatokal 10:20, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No reply from Suntec and no time to call RC. Will be away for the next few weeks, so somebody else will have to step in... Jpatokal 12:40, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We have quite a number of weaknesses that we need to fill it up soon, we better do it. Also, I need someone above 21 to get a police permit. Thanks. Terence Ong 11:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Has anybody working on this actually organized any large-scale event before? Jpatokal 12:40, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. --Terence Ong 06:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch, the deadline is coming nearer. I was away for a trip last week, so i just saw this page again. Cross fingers for the nomination. BTW we need to convert the prices into US dollars. Anyone? Chaerani 16:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
