Talk:Wikimedia México
Follow-up questions for Wikimedia México [edit]
Who are the people behind this application? [edit]
We are a group of wikimedians and free knowledge enthusiasts, who have decided to form a working group with the aim of founding the Wikimedia Mexico chapter. We include people from the professional fields of humanities, law, public relations, education, translation, media and more.
How many? [edit]
We have a list of 36 interested people and a recently formed taskforces with coordinators which already have begun work on various projects.
Any active (on local or international level) Wiki[pm]edians? [edit]
All of the participants and the coordinators are active Wikimedians. Most work with Spanish Wikipedia, but some work with English Wikipedia and a good number also contribute to Wikimedia Commons
Active in which communities if any? [edit]
Two of our members are also active members of Free Software Foundation and Fundación Mexicana de Software Libre. In addition, we're in contact with the organizators of other related communities such as Mozilla, Ubuntu, CitiVox, Social Media Club Mexico, open source activists and organizers of events such as Campus Party.
Could you give a short overview of the time path of the founding up to now? [edit]
We are in talks and meetings since March 2010, but the work was more intense since past September, with the recruitment of new members and the start of a number of GLAM related and other projects.
Have there been any activities/meetings etc. of this group of people? [edit]
We had regular meetings in person with people based in Mexico City, and we organized successfully the tenth anniversary of Wikipedia in Mexico City and Guadalajara, two major cities in Mexico. More events are planned in 2011 for linking the Wikimedia projects with Mexican society. Currently our projects include:
- Wikimedia Mexico - National Council for Community and Education Partnerships Mexico Project
-
- STATUS: we signed a letter of intention on July 10, 2011. This agreement is to work with this NGO, to serve as a legal and organizational "incubator" as we continue to work to gain legal recognition with Mexican authorities. They are also assisting us with setting up our organization and creating directives and plans.
- GLAM initiative between Museo de Arte Popular of Mexico City and Wikimedia México
-
- STATUS: Inital cooperative agreement with Mexico's largest musuem dedicated to handcrafts and folk art was made in May. In July, the first upload of 57 donated photographs was made.
- During the week of July 11, preliminary agreements with the state direction of museums for Colima, Mexico was achieved, a similar agreement with the Ma Teresa Pomar Museum of the University of Colima and an invitation to make a formal presenation to a meeting of the state-directed musuems of Jalisco, which account for over thirty musuems in the Guadalajara area alone.
- STATUS: Inital cooperative agreement with Mexico's largest musuem dedicated to handcrafts and folk art was made in May. In July, the first upload of 57 donated photographs was made.
- WikiTechVolunteers: We are in talks with the University of Colima for Systems Engineering students have an ongoing program working with the hardware and software of the Wikimedia projects. One long term goal is the development of a data center and mirror site to work with Wikipedia servers. We have recently been in touch with Liam Wyatt to investigate the Foundation's needs.
- GLAM Strategy:We are planning a national level event for November, with the aim of gaining the attention of major governmental and private organizations dedicated to the promotion of culture in Mexico.
- Wikipedia in Mexico's indigenous languages: Currently we have in standby an initiative with federal authorities, academics, students and bilingual enthusiasts with the aim of enlarging the Wikipedia's in Nahuatl and Maya as well as the creation Wikipedias in other languages. Our letter of intention with the NCCEP was a major step forward with this project.
What kind of activities are planned for the future in the chapter? [edit]
Linkage to strategic sectors, efforts to disseminate the Wikimedia projects, activities to raise funds and grants, expansion of the Wikimedia projects in indigenous languages of Mexico and educational and technological projects based on usage of Wikimedia projects. Many of these are planned as an extension of existing cooperations, but our planned event in November is crucial to these efforts as it will allow us to be known among the people who can help us the most.
Have the bylaws been reviewed by a lawyer/specialist? [edit]
Yes. Two of our members are lawyers (User:Salvador_Alc and User:Saloca).

--Rαge 02:58, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Acá está el vínculo. De cualquier forma mejoro esa versión. Saludos, --Ivanmartinez 04:45, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
