This is an excellent project. There is constant friction between pop-culture and encyclopedic material in English-language Wikipedia. A lot of the material is valuable and wants to be somewhere, but just doesn't belong in an academic encyclopedia. This could be an open alternative to IMDB, Allmusic.com, Trek Nation etc., etc. Perhaps it could also offer web services, like CDDB or freedb.
Is the name set in stone? I could see it benefiting from non-electronic media which aren't necessarily "entertainment", like sci-fi and fantasy literature and fan fiction and tribute films, including, say video game-related novels, canon and non-canon Trek stories, mystery novels, Harlequin romances etc. Also, things like extended plot summaries, and more speculative types of discussions about mainstream literature. How about "PopWiki", for pop culture? "Pop" has the advantage that it's understandable in any language.
There's already a lot of energy out there, and it seems like you have the basic premise worked out. Don't sweat the details under a microscope. Just establish the founding principals and get started, and once there is an active membership the details will shake themselves out. I think the most important work to build momentum will be in recruiting other open-source sites and their memberships to pitch in, and come transfer existing content and start working.
Once it is active, there are a lot of active wikipedians who would probably be happy to contribute here, and a fair bit of content to siphon off from there, too. Good luck. —en:user:Mzajac

Wait for it a little. I'm modifiying my computer to host the place.

I'm also thinking about including sports, and contemporary technology. The idea is to cover everything concerning trivia and pop culture with an encyclopedic organization.

Some diferences will be the subdivision of the place in the "guides" (bigger wikiprojects that determine several aspects of the looks of the site acording to the topic: sports, TV, movies, games, etc), the use of "/subsidiary articles", a "local" navigation bar included in the tool bar.

The policies and guidelines will be based on those of wikipedia.

Well there is already wikia:entertainment and wikia:armchairgm (sports), wikia:opinions (politics) and much there. Matthias 16:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Judging by the discussions and current situation on en.wikipedia, there seems to be demand for it. On the other hand, the mission of the Foundation is education rather than entertainment, isn't it? --B. Wolterding 15:04, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
