Vote[edit]

Please go to Discussion on the logo votes for discussion about the voting procedures! —Nightstallion (?) 21:52, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old discussion[edit]

So, we've got a number of proposals now -- will we be starting a vote at some point? If so, we should determine *first* what the conditions of the vote will be (eligibility, deadline, ...) —Nightstallion (?) 05:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, previous votes don't appear to have had any eligability critera, so I'd say this one shouldn't either. The International logo contest lasted month, followed by a month of voting, so I'd say that the vote should be 11-ish July to August. Smurrayinchester 11:32, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds fine to me. —Nightstallion (?) 13:30, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. We haven't hit any really nice "oh this is it" sort of proposals yet. The Wiktionary logo has always been difficult - I'd like to see it ferment longer. Some mix of the current ideas might yield something useful, yet.
Also, for the larger projects, the "advertizing" of the logo contest was much broader. I don't think we've seen very many artists (numerically) really dive into this one yet. I think giving it more time would be beneficial. --Connel MacKenzie 19:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Please allow it some more time, I still prefer our current one above any of the proposals. We'll need some more ideas and brainstorming, and some more artistically minded people working on it. More PR. All proposals so far are "nice" but not "wow". We need a "wow" here, like the incubator proposal. Vildricianus 21:46, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't even know what the Incubator project is, but I knew what "wow" you're talking when I saw the logo. I just wouldn't call it "wow", something more along the lines of "hits nail on head", which is what the current logo does. So what's the current status of this proposal? We're waiting for more submissions? What logos do other dictionaries (online or paper) use? Xaxafrad 01:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, the logo should indicate the concept that 'wiktionary is improved by you'. 'you' are valuable and trusted. and witness the wonderful result that trust has created. "it's your dictionary" But bring "you" into the logo somehow. I don't know how to do this graphically. - curt@Pnk.com

I personally like the concept behind the logo with the alphabets from different languages, I think it shows what makes wikimedia unique and great, i.e. anyone can be part of this project regardless of their background, culture, language...etc.

Puzzle pieces[edit]

I like the #1 style with the tiles but can they be shaped like puzzle pices? Or does Wikipedia have a monopoly on puzzle pieces? Quinobi 07:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I am disinclined to the Puzzle piece approach. It doesn't click on any level -- it's a letter, not a word; it doesn't imply a work of reference, it doesn't match the Wikimedia colors or style; it doesn't imply a community project, but more of a small group activity. By contrast, the 7th option on the #12 category on the content page hits on all those levels.

Red dot = head of a person, viewed from above

Green partial circle = shoulders and arms of that person, from above

Book = implies a work of reference, because the person is standing up (else we'd see his legs!)

Green partial circle = also implies community, openness, welcoming

Colors = Wiki standard

Style = matches other wikimedia works

MarzEz - newbie[edit]

how do you add a picture to an article? I'm new, could someone help me? 6:45 p.m. - 1st of may

Type [[Image:Incubator-notext.png]] That's the simplest. Most of the time you'll want to add |100px at the end (to make it 100px), or thumb (for a thumbnail). Detailed info at Help:Images. You can just look at the wikicode for a page, to see how they did it. Daniel () Check out Wikiscope! 08:39, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
