Wikistats 2.0 content and activity reports[edit]

This is also quite important mw:Analytics/Wikistats/DumpReports/Future per report. According to the webpage of Erik Zachte, this is the survey which contains a list of available reports. User are welcome to state their preferences about which Wikistats content and activity reports (aka dump reports) they would prefer to see continued in a new form (probably with improvements).

Could we add it?--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:56, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Das ist ein Scherz oder? Außer dem Eingangstext ist quasi nichts deutsch. Nichtmal das Datum, welches ja vermutlich automatisch gesetzt wird ist deutsch. Ich hätte ja fast was übersetzt. Aber als Normalsterblicher bin ich an der Technik gescheitert. Bitte ändert den Einleitungssatz: "Welcome to Meta-Wiki, the global english speaking community site for the Wikimedia Foundation's projects." ......Sicherlich Post 18:18, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It went broken in this edit by @Pols12:, I have restored the uselang as it seems to work. Stryn (talk) 20:46, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Omotecho, Stryn, actually, `uselang ` is totally unuseful: you could replace it with “cijferijzof” it would “work” too. Since the Main Page has been rewrited, it is configured to be displayed in English. You have to visit Main_Page/ja to see it in Japanese: the Other Language frame in page bottom let's you choose the language. Since Stryn replaced `lang` with `uselang`, whatever the language you choose in Other Language, the event language will remain localised “en”. Unfortunately, I have not the time now to rewrite the page. —Pols12 (talk) 22:48, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both Stryn and Pols12, whatever good I wish tohcontribute, but not quite tech-rich as you both are. And even if the code might be made fit better, to me, case is closed (and so it would be for maybe a hundred more readers/translators with lesser tech). My humble appreciation for your swift replies, cheers, --Omotecho (talk) 00:44, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of open access to US federally sponsored research[edit]

I believe that these deletions are entirely antithetical to the movement. EllenCT (talk) 00:38, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that there is a discussion at Requests for comment/Ask the US government to require open access to federally sponsored research. EllenCT (talk) 00:53, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I object to these deletions by Billinghurst.

Billinghurst, what is your rationale for those removals? EllenCT (talk) 09:32, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(ec) @EllenCT: and I would think that an admin reverting something and a user reapplying something without taking it via the talk page and resolving it there is the antithesis to the consensus approach of wikimedians. I have removed it whilst the conversation is taking place.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:33, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst: do you have an independent rationale for the deletions? EllenCT (talk) 09:36, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed your text whilst a consensus is being addressed. There is nothing urgent about your discussion that requires it to be on the main page at this moment at time. Your RfC is uninhibited.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:38, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst: Do you have any objections independent of the discussion at Requests for comment/Ask the US government to require open access to federally sponsored research? There is a March 16 deadline for responses to be submitted. EllenCT (talk) 09:44, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Date format[edit]

The {{date}} output in Italian is all wrong ("º" ends up at the end instead of after the number, and is applied when it shouldn't). Do we really need to use this bizarre template just to avoid writing the year? It would be much better to use the usual parser functions, which generally have a much better i18n. Suggestion for addition[edit]

to advertise Requests_for_comment/Reforming_the_RFC_process#Notifications_about_this_RFC. I would do it myself but I am unable to understand this template layout. --MF-W 16:09, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

If the Main Page is up for translation, why not this part of the main page? It looks weird to see "English stuff" on a translated version, for example here. ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:31, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TheAafi: You can continue translating:
Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 16:34, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dušan Kreheľ, I'm already on it. Thanks for mentioning the translation links but my concern is about a different part that is not ready for translation. ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:58, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
TheAafi: This part of the page is translated somewhat differently - by adding switches in the actual wiki code. Example: Special:Diff/24159660. Xeno (WMF) (talk) 17:21, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Xeno (WMF), Thanks for pointing out. Adding switches is something I find very difficult when the actual wiki code is complicated, so I'll leave this for now. ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:27, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Xeno (WMF), I added one switch, could you please check if it is okay ;) ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:39, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Time range for news?[edit]

Proposal: Let's keep the last 30-45d of news and the coming 30-45d in the News section -- roughly the previous + current + next calendar months -- only shortening the window when there is too much material to fit easily on the page. That's better than having a blank news section, or removing things the week after they happen, or only showing the next couple weeks of events. Ramzy, Xeno, what do you think? –SJ talk  03:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the proposal, SJ :) there really is no particular protocol for this template, but since our team has been using it a lot, your suggestion would make a lot of sense. Happy to hear from others as well. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 08:22, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One particular exception that I can see is for time-sensitive announcements of an opportunity, like the Ombuds-CRC call for members which have a strict application deadline. I think it would make sense to remove it once the deadline passes to avoid confusion. But for one-time events and conferences, what you proposed would work. RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 08:24, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Ramzy, that makes sense. –SJ talk  00:58, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
