I have extended the mediawiki export script to handle categories, not just namespaces. Get it here.
I have also created a database driven skin, that allows you to edit the mediawiki skin directly in the wiki itself. Find that here.
Finally I have made an extension to allow for user homepages on a media wiki. Read about that here.
