Person has received no warnings and has engaged on en.wikipedia with another editors as to what the parameters are re: adding links to one's own site. (I don't agree with the answer he got but he appears to be acting in good faith). Links appear relevant but I don't understand games enough to be sure. I advise just watching for now. --A. B. I would agree that the link could be relevant (if the authors of this article chose this particular mods/scenario page as an example), but the way it has been pushed crosswiki is clearly inappropriate. I also fail to see why this site is more "official" than the other sites you get when googling "Civilization mods". The question has been adressed at German Wikipedia here. I recommend removing all Xwiki "external link section" additions (not touching the references), except for de: and en: At de: I would simply leave a notification with a link to this report, what to do (if anything) on en:wiki I'm not sure about. Finn Rindahl 12:06, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I'll leave a note at en.wikipedia. --A. B. (talk) 14:48, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

I understand that you might classify my case of "conflict of interest", but I disagree here. It's simply real facts that my case is very rare - a mod that gains official status. So rare that, of course, I'm proud of it and I want to write it on the pedia.
I also fail to see why this site is more "official" than the other sites you get when googling "Civilization mods".
The answer is clear. Since my maps and my mods are official, I am still proving updates for these works, which can be found on my site.

That said, I kindly request to readd my content.

Rhye20 09:29, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks you for responding here Rhye20. My inclination is that it is reasonable to have a link as a reference in articles that actually mention the scenario "Rhyes and fall of Civilization" or "official mods", but that you have linked to your domain to excessively (currently 16 links in 9 projects). While official maps and mods might be something the editors of Civilization Wikipediaarticles would see fit to mention, that choice should be left to them: I still recommend removing external links additions crosswiki, but will ask for a second opinion here before doing so. Regarding the request for "readding your content" I can't see that content has been removed, with the exception of Wikipedia in English, I suggest that the issue there is resolved locally (at en:wiki). Regards, Finn Rindahl 10:00, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
It's very simple -- don't add those links yourself or write about your mods. I, too, have a well-recognized, widely quoted web site and blog, but I don't get to link to it or write about it in Wikipedia although I'd like to. Not even the Queen gets to edit material about herself to Wikipedia -- and neither of us is the Queen of England. If there's merit to this material, some disinterested third party is welcome to add it.
The one exception is that you may remove unreferenced, blatantly libelous material about yourself. Our Biographies of Living Persons Policy has more information on this.
So if you (or some alter ego or anonymous IP) keep adding this material, we'll give you some polite warnings and then if you persist, your domain will be blacklisted, like it or not. If an established, high volume editor adds this material, we're fine with that. --A. B. (talk) 12:12, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I left pointers to this discussion at:
--A. B. (talk) 13:01, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I have reverted Rhye20's edits on other Wikipedias -- if established, neutral editors want to add them back, that's fine. --A. B. (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

A high volume editor? Is this a lobby? How can you call this a "free" encyclopedia then. By all means:

1. I never wanted to spam. I've edited basically 3-4 pages. If more links are added, that's because I edited multiple languages. If you felt that I added too many links, I could have grouped the multiple ones into one. In some pages I added one link per scenario, for the best accuracy. If you wanted less links, I could have made just all point to a single page (the main page).

2. I never wanted to give the perception of conflict of interest, and this is why I added a lot of other content on civ mods other than mine. For instance, I added descriptions of all the scenarios of Beyond the Sword in some languages. I added the 3 hosted sites to Civfanatics page.

And you, A.B., what you have done instead? You've deleted ONLY my scenario from the list of a few pages (italian, spanish,...), so that now it results that 10 out of the 11 mods included are listed, leaving out one of the best for no reason. Same with Civfanatics page. Check the main page: they host 3 sites. I added all 3 and now you delete only mine. You've deleted references from Civ4 page, so that now it shows "citation needed". What citation do you want for "It is based on the Robinson projection of the Earth in order to optimize its size" other than mine and the homesite of the scenario? I am the author, and I know what I did. You're turning a "suspicious" conflict of interest, that could have been resolved just with a clarification in a few messages, into a much worse result: inaccurate pages.

You'd better revert your changes. Rhye20 15:05, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree that the changes seem to go too far. At the very least the fact that it's included in the game is not in question so i don't see why it has to be wiped out completely from the scenarios list for BTS. 69.74.202.2 15:59, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Rhye20, I wouldn't worry. I left messages on the en.wikipedia article talk pages explaining the changes and inviting established editors to revert them if they thought your material was useful. On the other Wikipedias, I left a link to this discussion in my edit summaries.
If editors want your stuff, they'll add it back.
As for making demands ("You'd better revert your changes"), that's probably counterproductive in this situation. --A. B. (talk) 17:38, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

You first threatened me of blacklisting my site. I wonder why in a place that's supposed to be free, I can't BE BOLD and add do what I think it's right. Counterproductive or not, I'm just trying to make you realise that you're damaging the articles. I doubt that in other languages there'll be people reverting the changes anytime soon, anyway, since the amount of traffic is very low compared to english pages. So, since I can't do anything, I guess they'll stay as they are - cool, now French people will read that Civ4 shipped with 2 only scenarios instead of 6. Rhye20 21:06, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Closed Closed - adding links to your own site is inappropriate & continuing will result in the domain being blacklisted. As for improving the content, you're welcome to do that without pushing links to your site (& following other policies and guidelines). For now, the link additions have been reverted.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 01:12, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
"If editors want your stuff, they'll add it back." I have added some of it back, but with some additions and changes to expand the quality and neutrality of the articles. KPalicz 15:06, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
