Italian entry Currently I'm trying to investigate several different language versions of Wikipedia, and so far I've observed that the Italian version is significantly different at this time of writing. Automatic cross linking (Namespaces?) works to the Italian section, but does not appear to work from it. -- David Martland 08:15, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Namespaces
I am assuming that the Wikipedia software has some forms of namespaces. The different language versions, and the metapedia pages seem to work (sometimes ...) using notation of the form m:subject (for a metapedia page), but they may not actually do exactly what one hopes. For example, one might hope that
Metapedia User David Martland would appear as
Metapedia User David Martland and also refer to this page - but it probably won't! There again - it might! (IT DOES!)
There are possible problems in cross language versions, as different language versions appear not all to have the same functionality.
Let's check this out across different language versions:
- French User David Martland
- Spanish User David Martland
- Swedish User David Martland
- Italian User David Martland (In the Italian version users seem to be part of the main volume!)
- Guessing Wikipedia this time!
(Brion VIBBER has pointed out that, for example, the Italian version is still using older software - see Wikipedia software upgrade status, en:Wikipedia talk:Software_updates#Software update of the other Wikipedias --Brion VIBBER 08:45, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC) )
One more thing - is there any way of getting LITERAL entries - eg. New Word to appear NOT AS A LINK (e.g almost as [ [ New Word ] ], but without the spaces?
I must check the manual again, I think!
