Not a lot of people know I write Wikipedia articles. Like many of you I was just looking for information on a particular topic and ended up on the English version of Wikipedia. Then I noticed something on the left-hand side of the screen: links to other languages. I followed the link to the article in Portuguese since I thought I might as well read it in my native language. The article was not as complete as the English version, which left me a bit disappointed, but instead of giving up on it, I started translating some bits from the English version and gathering information from other sources.

It is still quite surprising to know that Wikipedia has versions in over 200 languages. It even has a version in Mirandês, a language only spoken in a small village in Portugal. If nothing else, documenting small languages, languages that may soon disappear, is one of the major contributions of Wikipedia to the world. Wikipedia has changed the world in so many ways!

We are now asking you to keep changing the world. Every single donation will help the mission of Wikipedia and of the Wikimedia foundation: Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet has free access to the sum of all human knowledge. And in their own language.

People like you make this happen!
