The Wikipedia Library

Book requests:
We send books to Wikipedia editors for use in writing Wikipedia articles.
These book requests are funded by grants from the Wikimedia Foundation.

How to make a book request

Step 1 Find the book you need from one of our online booksellers.

• Make sure that shipping is available to your country from this bookseller
• Check that you and your book meet the criteria for requests

Step 2 Post your book request.

• Make sure you include all information needed

Step 3 A Wikipedia Library Account Coordinator will process your request.

• Account Coordinators check all new requests within a few days and approve those that meet the criteria.
• An Account Coordinator will contact you privately to ask for your shipping address.
• An Account Coordinator orders the book from the online bookseller and has it shipped to you.

Step 4 Update the status of your request.

• Confirm when your book arrives by posting a status update on your original request.
• Confirm you used the book to improve Wikipedia by posting links to articles you created or improved as a second status update, within 3 months of your request.

Step 5 Come back again when you need another book for writing more articles!

Criteria for requests

• The book you are requesting must be a reliable source for use in Wikipedia articles.
• You are an active editor who has made at least 200 edits to Wikipedia.
• Any past book requests you've had were put to good use - you completed all status updates for your request, demonstrating how you've made use of the book to improve Wikipedia.
• Maximum cost per request (without shipping): $200

By participating in this program, you understand and agree that your name, address, and email address will be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia Library, and other services for the purpose of this program (such as ordering your books). While representatives of the Wikipedia Library are volunteers (not employees or contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation), they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.
